Summerfest will be fun time
I am looking forward tomy first
Strawberry Summerfest this week-
end. I'll ' be out and about snapping
pictures and taking in all of .the
events that the community of
Lucknow has to offer.
Since. my first day of work in
Lucknow everyone has been
very welcoming and it has made
the transition very easyfor me.
For the seven months that
I've been 'here covering
events . and doing inter-
views I have found out
everyone in the village sup-
ports each other. All of the
service clubs do the' utmost to help
each other out and the ` more they
help each other out, the better
Lucknow is for it.
From the pictures I have seen
from past Summerfests, it seems this
event epitomizes what Lucknow
stands for an that is community
will have_the :1 privilege of
taking pictures of the many
smiles of families enjoying
everything from the pancake
breakfast, the dances, the
music, the m apy : sporting
and children's events, etc
au.. weekend long.
I'm sure that Summerfest
will be on1e of the events
from my time ; here in
Lucknow that I will reinember
because it willremind of something
that I take seriously in my life and
that's family.

Public Health no lon
Public Health is no longer collect-
ing birds for the West Nile virus
Program. If you find a dead bird, you
do not need . to call Public Health.
Double bag the bird and place it in
your garbage : for pick-up or bury the
carcass at least two feet 'deep in an
area that will not 'be disturbed. Do not
bury in vegetable gardens. Make sure
to wash your hands thoroughly with
soap and water after handling a dead
bird.
Since 2002, Public Health has asked
residents of Grey Bruce to report dead
birds so they could be tested for West
Nile virus (WNv). Information on
"positive" birds was used to plan
activities to reduce the risk of human
infection.
Positive birds have been found in
Grey Bruce every year since 2002. As
WNv is here to stay, it . is no longer
necessary to monitor dead, birds.
Public Health will continue other
ger collecting birds
activities to reduce the risk of WNv.
WNv is mainly a disease of birds
but it can spread to humans through
the: bite of an infected mosquito. Most
people who get WNv have mild
symptoms or no symptoms at all, but
for some, WNv can have very serious
health effects.
' Though - you no longer need to
report dead birds, it is still important
to protect yourself and your family
from WNv:
- Avoid mosquito bites -- wear long-
sleeved, light coloured clothing and
apply insect repellent according to
manufacturer's instructions.
r- Minimize mosquitoes -- mosqui-
toes lay their eggs in still, water, so
make sure that water does not collect
in containers or puddles in your yard.

Health at 519-376-9420 or 1-800-263-
