WOSSAA includes all of the high schools in the coun- ties of Huron, Perth, Middlesex, Elgin and Oxford. Thanks to key contributions from Lucknow area ath- letes, FE Madill won the Overall Boys WOSSAA Championship and the Senior Boys Championship. It has been approxi- mately 25 years since Madill has won the overall boys title at WOS- SAA and this was a major accomplish- ment, A.J. Beasley helped generate a large number of the points that won the school the titles. A.J. won silver medals in the Senior Boys Long Jump (6.79m) and the 110 m } r .:; Hurdlf,s (1/�- e-- onds) and bronze- in the 400 m Hurdles (58.04 seconds). He also ran onthe 4x ,100m Relay team that finished fifth in a personal best time of 45.13 seconds; plus on the 4 x 400m Relay team that won the silver medal, while setting a new F.E. Madill • School Record (3:31.25). . Mitch Kuik con- tributed. points to the Overall Boys team by winning the sil- ver. medal „in the Midget Boys Discus with an excellent throw of 38.49 in. Cody Younglao had a good flay and set a new personal best in the. Junior Boys Triple Jump with a jump of 10.99 m. He also compet- ed ompeted in the Junior Boys Discus (22.69m). Gary Finlay had advanced to WOS- SAA inall three of his events and threw the Shot Put . 10.51 m, the discus 32.15 m and the javelin 33.48 m. There were also outstanding results from the Lucknow area girls on the. team. Gina Murray, who won, the OFSAA gold medal in Midget Girls Javelin . last year, broke the WOSSAA record and the F.E. Madill record in the JuniorGi& JaV4in by 1 app telt'. three meters each when she threw 38.29 m to win the gold medal. This throw ranks her sec- ond in, the province this year. Her out- standing meet also included a personal bgst throw in the dis- cus (28.67m) that resulted . in a fourth place finish and a personal best dis- tance in the long jump (4.51 in). She • was also a member of the Junior Girls 4 x lOthn Relay team that finished fourth with a personal best time of 53.01 sec- :onds. Julie -Anne Staehli also did very well earning sixth placein the 300 m hurdles in a time of 50.51 seconds. She had a personal best performance of 9.85 m in the 'triple jump to finish eighth. She ran the 400, m in a time of 1:05.22 and she ran on the open girls 4 x 400 m relay -team that -finished eighth in a time of 4:22.25. Ellen. Gilchrist also competed well and finished fifth in both the Junior Girls Shot Put with a per- sonal best throw of 9.24 m, and discus with a throw 'of 27.61 m. She threw 18.28 m the javelin. She also ran the 300 m Hurdles in a time of 54.33 seconds. Each athlete who had at least one top five finish has earned the opportu- nity to advance to • compete in the OFSAA West Regional meet which was held in Kitchener on -May 29 and 30.
