Outstanding results from Lucknow area FE Madill students
The F.E. Madi11 'Track
and Field Team partici-
pated in the Huron -Perth
Championships 'in
Clinton on May .12 and
13. The team perfumed
extremely well and there
were many outstanding
results by Lucknow area
competitors.
A.J. Beasley won the
trophy as the individual
Senior Boys' Champion
after winning -all three of.
his events. He won the
long jump with a distance
of 6.29 m. He tied his
own school record in the
110 ni. hurdles and is now
ranked ninth in the
province so far this sea-
son with a tune of 149
seconds. He also won the
400 m hurdles in a time of
57.10 seconds which
ranks him sixth in the
province in the, event this
season. A.J. also ran on
the winning 4x100 m and
4x400 in relay teams.
The time foethe 4x400 m
Relay team, 3:34.50,
broke the school record
that A.J. had helped to set
last year and ranks the
team eighth in the
., province based on all of
the meets held so far this
. year. .
. Three local athletes,
Ellen Gilchrist, . Gina
Murray, and Julie -Anne
Staehli were tied for sec-
ond place overall in the
Junior Girls' category
after earning 24 points
each. Ellen Gilchrist fm-
ished second in discus
(25.25m), . shot put
(8.63m), and javelin (per-
sonal best of 25.30m).
Gina Murray, who won
. the Provincial
Championships in the
Midget Girls' javelin last
year, won this year's
Huron -Perth javelin
(33.93m), , and discus
(26.6QM), and placed
fourth in long jump
(4.17m). Although the
provincial rankings for
Junior Girls' Javelin are
not up-to-date, Gina's
throw will defuutely have
her- in the top to in the
province this year. Julie -
Anne Staehli had person-
al
son -al best • performances in
all three of her events and
won the 300 m hurdles
(50.30), was second in the
400 in (1:04.90), and
thirdin triple jump
(9.72m). •
Laura Irwin performed
well in the Midget Girls'
category finishing second
in both the 80 m hurdles
(14.5 seconds) and the
300 m hurdles (51.50 sec-
onds).
In the Midget Boys'
age group, Mitch Kuik
continued his outstanding
season by winning the
discus competition with a
personal best throw of
3918 m. That throw
*ranks him. as the ninth
best thrower in Oi tario in
his age group based on all
of the meets held
throughout the pitivince
-so far this year.
Cody Younglao had a
personal: best of 32.90
meters in the Junior Boys
discus and jumped 10.76
in the triple jump to eam
fifth and sixth places in
• the events. In the same
category, ' Remco
Weerman finished sev-
enth in all dtree, of his
events and threw 2937m
in discus, 37.00m in
javelin and a personal
best of 10.84in in the shot
In the Senior Ginscat-
egory, Heather de Boer
finished second in discus
with a personal best
throw of 31.97 m, third in
shot put with a throw of
9.33 m and fifth iri javelin
with a throw of 24.99 m.
Erin Gilchrist finished
second in the shot put
(9.44m) and fifth in the
discus (24.36m). Justine
Beasley won the Senior
Girls high jump (1.35 m)
and was sixth in the long
jump (4.12 m): Kylie
Gammie had a personal
best performance in the
100 Ill with a time of
15.56 seconds. •
In the Senior 'Boys'
group, Gary Finlay had
an excellent , meet and
earned third fitshot put
with a personal best
throw of 11.44 in, fourth
m discus[ with a :t mw of
33.39 m, and fifth : in
javelin with a personal
best throw of 38.49 in.

ninth best Ahrower in Ontario in his age group based on all of
the meets held throughout the province so far this year.
These 5 area residents will have their heads shaved by hair stylist Lacey
Murray. Their aini, and that of those who so generously sponsored them, is to
raise awareness and funds for a cure fora cancer. Please join them on
