Lucknow Sentinel, 2009-03-11, Page 8Page 8 - Lucknow Sentinel, Wednesday, March 11, 2009 H -K council looking into the implications of infiltration ditches BY GARIT REID Sentinel Staff At the Feb. 17 Huron -Kinloss council meeting, council asked staff to look • into the possible implica- tions of installing infiltration ditches and mini storm water pond in the municipal ditches, The H -K deputy clerk reported ' at the March 2 meet- ing that the Ministry of the environment, (MOE) had 'beep' contacted about creating infiltra- tion ditches in the existing municipal ditches and also the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO). The MOE would :require exact details on the scope of the proj- ect before decid- ing if it would require a certifi- cate of approval from H -K Twp. Thi DFO would only become involved if the Saugeen . Valley Conservation Authority (SVCA) requested it, how- ever H -K Twp. would have to con- sult the SVCA first. Ripley waste- water certificate of approval Huron -Kinloss council sent an amendment to the MOE on the .cer- tificate cer-tificate of approval of the Ripley_ Wastewater Treatment System 'to get a re -rating of :.the existing average daily flow of 380 m/day to 600 m/day. The MOE has agreed to a re -rating of 500 rn/day with a provision for a fur- ther review of the rating, as it approaches the 500 m/day usage. To date there has been no follow up by the MOE or Grey Bruce Health Unit. Sewage Works Performance The 2008 Lucknow Sewage w o r k s Performance Report has been sent to the `MOE for their review. The conclusion of the engineers of H -K Twp. is that the works provid- ed excellent treat- ment of sewage in 2008 and in their opinion, generally exceeded typical tertiary treatment standards. The average daily sewer flow was at 88.3 per cent of the design capacity. Green digester cones H -K Twp will have a limited number of green digester - cones, which includes a caddy, for sale to Township resi- dents. The cost will be $75 each. The regular retail value is $185. Digesters can be reserved by calling the Huron Landfill site during normal hours of operation. They can be pur- chased on site after March 13. Flooding The lakeshore area recently expe- rienced heavy flooding at the Point Clark Community Centre, in the Attawandaron and Huron Road area and . the Kin -Bruce subdivision.
