CGA commends government The Canadian Gas Association commended the Ontario govern- ment for tabling the Green . Energy Act and recognizing the important role that natural gas and nat- ural ,gas distribu- tion utilities have in the province's sus- tainable energy future particularly in the areas of expanding renew- able energy, sup- porting new tech- nology, and energy efficiency. The Green Energy Act pro- vides a range of ini- tiatives to . support the further develop- ment of renewable energy including wind, • solar, bio- mass and. biogas. This includes streamlining regu- latory u- latory approvals, developing resource kits for municipalities when reviewing renewable- projects, and other incen- tives. "Building on the strong foundation of the natural gas distribution indus- try, the province will become a leader in renewable and sustainable energy systems," said Mike Cleland, CGA President and CEO. "The afford- able, secure, effi- cient, and clean characteristics of natural gas make it the perfect back- stop to an expand- ing renewable ener- gy future in Ontario." The Act also includes anumber e of conservation and energy efficiency initiatives and pro- grams. - These include creating a conservation infor- mation centre with- in the Ministry of Energy, supporting conservation pro- grams for govern- ment buildings, and new incentives for using new green energy technology like home solar, thermal and heat exchangers, and pursuing efforts to help those with low-income, "CGA, Ethridge Gas Distribution Inc. and Union Gas Limited have sug- gested that Ontario pur- sue a three-part strategy to help meet : the province's-vince's nergy needs- and support environ- ,anental objectives," said Cleland. "A smart gas strategy in Ontario includes these elements included in the Act and will result in more efficient use of energy, invest- ment in new renew- able technologies, and more integrat- ed community energy systems." The Cankdian Gas Association is the voice of Canada's natural gas delivery indus- try. CGA members are gas distribution companies, trans- mission companies, related equipment' manufacturers, and other service providers involved in the delivery of natural gas in Canada. Health Canada Issued a 4'oease and desist" letter to RetroFoam of Canada Incorporated, the Canadian Importer of the Insulation, to stop all importation andsale of RetroJoam in Canada. Health Canada also instructed Eneriiv, the Canadian distributor of RetroFoam, to stop all sale, advertisement and further installations of the product and to call back any, unused product. As a result of Health Canada's actions, RetroFoam is no longer available for sale or installation in Canada.
