commended the
Ontario govern-
ment for tabling the
Green . Energy Act
and recognizing the
important role that
natural gas and nat-
ural ,gas distribu-
tion utilities have in
the province's sus-
tainable energy
future particularly
in the areas of
expanding renew-
able energy, sup-
porting new tech-
nology, and energy
efficiency.
The Green
Energy Act pro-
vides a range of ini-
tiatives to . support
the further develop-
ment of renewable
energy including
wind, • solar, bio-
mass and. biogas.
This includes
streamlining regu-

developing
resource kits for
municipalities
when reviewing
renewable- projects,
and other incen-
tives.
"Building on the
strong foundation
of the natural gas
distribution indus-
try, the province
will become a
leader in renewable
and sustainable
energy systems,"
said Mike Cleland,
CGA President and
CEO. "The afford-
able, secure, effi-
cient, and clean
characteristics of
natural gas make it
the perfect back-
stop to an expand-
ing renewable ener-
gy future in
Ontario."
The Act also
includes anumber e
of conservation and
energy efficiency
initiatives and pro-
grams. - These
include creating a
conservation infor-
mation centre with-
in the Ministry of
Energy, supporting
conservation pro-
grams for govern-
ment buildings, and
new incentives for
using new green
energy technology
like home solar,
thermal and heat
exchangers, and
pursuing efforts to
help those with
low-income,
"CGA, Ethridge
Gas Distribution

Limited have sug-
gested
that Ontario pur-
sue a three-part
strategy to help
meet : the province's-vince's
nergy needs- and
support environ-
,anental objectives,"
said Cleland. "A
smart gas strategy
in Ontario includes
these elements
included in the Act
and will result in
more efficient use
of energy, invest-
ment in new renew-
able technologies,
and more integrat-
ed community
energy systems."
The Cankdian
Gas Association is
