I'm not saying that the movies chosen forthe awards are not good movies, they are great movies, but to select just a handful of films is ridiculous. I could probably name 10 movies off the top of my head that could also be up for best picture and a handful of actors who also could have been nominated. I know the Academy has a process of how it chooses its nominees, and if they did include every deserving fdm or actor than the awards show would probably Past for days. What people should get out of the Oscars is that it's a theatrical show me than an awards show. I do lilcg watching the clips of the movies and how they were made. It givessone-insight into how the movie business wt; ks: : , ; -, t , There, are • also so many highs plofile Ieop1e aha! have never won an Oscar; Sergio Leone, Alfred Hitchcock, Stanley Kubrick, Sydney Leet, R©b►ert Altman, etc. These are some of the best directors of .the history of filcYng and never came away with an Oscar. It's something that doesn't make sense, since they made some of the great- est films of all time. Google their names and you will see the greatness they creat- ed. I have never trusted the Oscars to tell. me what to watch. Go out and find those classic movies that aren't talked about. as 'SUV6kM DIA A Ce".. to be sought after much as let's say Titanic or Forrest Gump and you'll be pleasently surprised what you might find. A comparison would be that the Grammy awards show is not some- thing you watch to find all the music you will ever listen too. There are great artists there, but there are a thousand more you haven't heard that are just as good if notbetter. It just comes down to the fact that it shouldn't be left up to someone else to tell you what is good and what should be watched. I'm a big fan of movies and if I just' watched what awards shows like the Oscars put on, I'd be missing out on so many beautiful movies. I might b_ a rambling on here, but all you have do is go to places like www.imdb.com and search for any movie that comes to Another great way to find a movie is to find a film critic that suits' r movie tastes. I myself sgowith's+e ttusted names in the business, -like' Roger Ebert. He's a consummate professional of what makes up good movie I may not always agree with him, but when it comes to knowing the soul of movies, he's the man. Another critic who has had online sue- cess, is Www.amtitcool:com critic Knowles. He has an insatiable appetite for movies. He lives for movies and you can tell from the reviews he puts on his website. So next time you are out looking for a movie don't go for the popular pick or the new release, search for a movie that you will fall in love with.
