Conan O'Brien has come a long way
I have always been a Conan
O'Brien fan, right from the start. He
took over the Late Night at NBC
when David .Letterman moved to
CBS. It was a rough start for
O'Brien, but it has paid off and.
he'll be taking over the Tonight
Show as of June 1.
. Over the years O'Brien has
steadily won over critics
and viewers to create a
show that has his personal-
ity all over it
A former writer for The.
Simpsons and Saturday Night
Live,. he has the ability todeliver
with the written word. He took that
sense of humour, his quirky person-
ality and self -deprecating to the
small screen.
Many people might not remember,
but David Letterman was one of
Conan O'Brien's first guests and big
supporter of his, show. This was at a
time when the. guests' O'Brien
attracted were not from the A list or
even the B list.
entire,
Through solid comedy writing
from him and his staff, the security
he got in the early "years from side-
kick Andy Richter and just a
genuine approach to being him-
self, it has helped O'Brien join
the ranks of late night: hosts,
=like his idol Johnny Carson.
As mentioned before
O'Brien uses a ` lot of self-
deprecation in his comedy,
with things dike his appear-
ance, physical prowess and
overall coolness. A lot of
people identify with O'Brien`'
overthi • s and it has- mad e .him very

popular. He's cool for trying not to
be cool.
He'll bring something new to the
Tonight Show and he'll make it his
and it will be something I _wand to
watch. h' was never a fan of Jay
Leno's monologue.
Conan O'Brien has come along
away and it's nice to see his early
struggles. turn into late night suc-
cess.
.CHEERS to all public skating- sponsors this
year. The parents and kids appreciate it.
CHEERS to the kids of all ages who played
so well together at the drop in shinny hockey
on Family Day.
Cheers ... Here are the rules: 1. Drop your written copy in person at

The 2007 .Ontario
Student Drug Use and
Health Survey indicates
that 21 per cent of the
6323 students surveyed
reported non-medical
use of a prescription
pain reliever (such as
Percocet, Tylenol #3, or
OxyContin) in the year
before the survey.
Surprisingly, 72 per
cent of the students said
they got these drugs
from home.
The Grey Bruce
Health Unit, in partner-
ship with the Grey
Bruce Parent 'Norms
Committee, FOCUS
and local pharmacies,, ..
has developed a public
awareness campaign
addressing prescription
drug misuse. Beginning
Jan. 5, 12 local pharma-
cies will staple to all
prescription bags bright
green leaflets describ-.
ing the issue. The
leaflets contain statis-
tics , on prescription
drug misuse and pro-
vide tips for the safe
storage and disposal of
medications,
public Health urges
community members to
keep track of prescrip-
tion quantities, and to
return unused' medica-
tions to their local:phar-
macy. As a community,
we can reduce access to
the newest drug dealer
in town.

tion about prescription
drug misuse, call
