More than $60 in new, pool toys, including a
new life jacket, were donated to the Seaforth
Lions Pool last week as Rebels with a Cause
spreads the message of tobacco -free sports and
recreation this summer.
Stickers on the donated pool toys and beach
balls read, "No safe level of second-
hand smoke" while similar messag-
es are printed on other giveaways
like water bottles and pens which
will be given to local children.
Rebels with a Cause is a group of
Huron County youth who want to
prevent tobacco use in youth and to
expose how the tobacco industry di-
rectly targets youth.
Children playing at pools and
parks across Huron County the
week of June 29 - July. 3 were
treated to new toys and games from
Rebels with a Cause.
"We allocated nine gift.packs to all
the outdoor pools throughout Huron
County, hoping to get the parks and
pools to be smokefree," says Angela
Ritchie, of the Rebels group.
"We will be out all summer visit-
ing day camps, movie nights and
soccer and ball -tournaments. We
want to hit as many places as we
can," she says.
"We're targetting kids but we want to talk
to coaches, parents and kids about the dan-
gers of smokier and secondhand smoke," »say- s
Ritchie. t
Stickers with tobacco -free messages will be
displayed around the pools and parks for Hu-
ron County residents to view throughout the
summer:
