Social Services seeing rise in ,ijedthrobgheut the county
Cheryl Heath
Things are tough all over.
That was the word from social ser-
vices director Dave Overboe June 17,
during Huron County's committee -
of -the -whole session.
In releasing stats oil Ontario Works'
recipients, subsidized housing wait-
ing lists and related issues, Overboe
reported all numbers are up.
Though only three new cases were
added to the Ontario Works' roll for
the past month, Overboe said that
figure could be more of an indication
of available seasonal employment
rather than the halt to a steadily in-
creasing caseload.
"The recovery from that 504 (col-
lecting QW) may take awhile .... a
small gOwth is still a growth," he
said.
Barb Hall, housing -services man-
ager, reported there is a 20.15 per
cent increase in demand for subsi-
dized housing in the county as the
waiting list now stands at 232 peo-
ple.
"We're going to see those numbers
spike," she said.
Hall also reported that county -run
housing arrears now stand at 2.96 He advised administrators to work In all, $125,910 of the allotted

You are quoted on your web site as saying:
"My hope is that the campaign will get people
excited about Canada Day and give my constit-
uents a means to voice their pride in this great
country," said Mr. Lobb. "I'm optimistic thatthy
Canada Day, nearly every household in this
riding will have a flag on display. I can't think
of a better way to celebrate Canada Day."
Well, as far as a better way to celebrate Can-
ada Day I would like to make a few sugges-
tions of my own:
First of all the paper flag kit should be
trashed. It is a waste of taxpayers' money, it
yellows in the sun and most people already get
one in their local paper or ad flyer package.
By the way, most of these fliers you sent here
to Mildmay I noticed were
trashed in the blue box at
the post office. ( Which is
per usual with about every
political flyer we get.)
I would also add, that if
you really wanted to show
your support for this coun-
try that you don't cheapen
our pride with paper flags.

I would suggest that you ask your leader M`
Harper for more money so that real flags be
sent out to local residents and that no credit
be sought by you for others who use such a flag
to display their patriotism. I note. from your
web site ticker that the tally for Huron -Bruce
is only 1,913 Not much of a response when you
count nearly 80,000 eligible voters in this rid-
ing.
Finally let me say that I will be flying my flag
on Canada Day but I intend to leave it at half
mast.
For until your government recognizes that
it is obligated to protect the Charter of Rights
and Freedom of all Canadians, I feel little pride
in my country.
So long as Mr. Harper continues to legally
fight court orders which oblige. him to recog-
nize those rights, regardless of whether that -
citizen is of the Islamic faith, is kept as a pris-
oner in another country or may be suspected
of terrorism, their rights, as with all Canadian
born citizens should be protected.
It is part of the reason many in this coun-
try went to war and why for that reason many
Canadian's in Huron -Bruce will fly the flag on
Canada. Such patriotism will not come in a do
it yourself flag kit.
And one last thing. Should your government
pay for real flags next time around ... make
sure they are not made in China!
