June 14, 2017 Seaforth locals shook up after posse destroys vehicle while they were inside it Huron Expositor Shaun Gregory The Limon OPP are look- ing for a group of individuals responsible for a violent act in Huron East where an SUV was destroyed while the vic- tims were inside the vehicle. Upon picking up a group at a party on Hydro Line May 28 at approximately 1:15 a.m., a couple sources in Seaforth ‘vho asked to remain anonymous said the culprits blocked in the tar- geted group with a vehicle, a vicious attack on a 2016 Jeep Cherokee ensued. Sources say the group of violent destructors are from Mitchell and the Stratford area. In conversations through e rn a i l, Huron OPP Const. Jamie Stanley said the vehicle was "heavily damaged," including tiles flattened, wipers ripped off, windows smashed, glass shattered throughout the vehicle and dents on the body panels. I le estimates the damages to be roughly $15,000 while the sources deem the vehicle as a complete write-off. "There was a large party taking place at this address and a disturbance altercation took place, the driver attended the address to pick up some passengers and when they got into the vehicle they were targeted and the vehicle was dam- aged and they were threat- ened," stated Stanley. Sources say the driver of the vehicle had to flee the scene by driving on the vehi- cle's rims due to the tires being slashed. After the police were called, Stanley said the entourage dispersed before the authorities arrived. The Huron OPP crime unit continues to investigate the matter. POLICE BRIEFS DINNER TIME DRINKING AND DRIVING --CHARGES FOR 62 -YEAR-OLD (HURON EAST, Ont.) - A 62 -year-old from Seaforth is facing a criminal charge of Drive Motor Vehicle With Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol fol- lowing her arrest that took place over the weekend. On Saturday, June 3 Huron County OPP officers received information about a possi- ble impaired driver in Sea - forth. Just before 5:30 p.m. a Huron OPP officer spotted the suspect vehicle, a Mercedes Smart car at the intersection of Chalk Street and Duke Street. Upon stopping the vehicle and speaking with the female driver the investigating officer detected the odour of alco- hol on the driver's breath. As a result, a roadside screen- ing test was completed and the driver registered a Fail. The driver was placed under arrest and was transported to the Huron OPP Detachment for breath tests. She later provided two samples of her breath to a qualified intoxilizer techni- cian; both of her samples reg- istered over the legal limit. As a result, a 62 years of age from Huron East has been charged with Drive Motor With Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol. She has since been released from custody with a court date scheduled for July 10, 2017 at the Ontario Court of Justice - Goderich. She has also received an automatic 90 -day driver's licence suspen- sion and her motor vehicle was impounded for seven days. OPP ARREST SENIOR FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT (GODERICH, Ont.) - A 66 -year- old from Goderich has been arrested and is now facing charges following an inves- tigation by Huron County OPP crime unit members. Last Saturday, June 3rd, 2017 around 6:35 p.m. He was arrested and taken into custody without inci- dent on Thursday, June 8.. The 66 -year-old man from Goderich has been charged with two counts of Sexual Assault. Following a bail hearing the accused was released with upcoming court date sched- uled for June 19 at the Ontario Court of Justice - Goderich, ON. Police learned that two 16 -year- old girls were walking in the area of Maitland Road North & Nelson Street East when they observed an older male follow- ing them. The male followed the girls a short distance and upon approaching them he proceeded to ask them if they would like to have sex. Upon being told no, the male then pushed one of the girls. The girls then screamed for help and ran away. The male ran on foot and headed northwest. The Ontario Law Enforce- ment Torch run is a commu- nity- based, province -wide event that sees the "Flame of Hope" carried across Ontario by members of law enforce- ment agencies throughout the province. Since the first Law Enforcement Torch Run that was first established in Canada in 1987, over $35 million dol- lars has been raised in Ontario. The Huron County Torch Run starts at 9:00 a.m. at the Wing - ham OPP Detachment. The run will go through Wingham end- ing at the south end mall. Par- ticipants will then be transported to Blyth, Clinton and Goderich where they will complete a run/ walk/stroll in each of those com- munities. After completing the final leg in Goderich participants and supporters will take part in the 30th Anniversary celebration BBQ. The barbecue is scheduled to take place around 12:00 p.m. located at McGee Motors on Suncoast Drive East in Goderich.
