Canadians learned Tues- day about a possible ter- ror attack that hap- pened Saturday in Toronto, four days earlier. 'That's how long it took journalists to ferret out the tale of a violent and concerning incident that thankfully ended without tragedy. This is unacceptable and alarming — both the incident itself and the fact the public remained in the dark about it for four days. But there is still much we need to know. Rehab Dughmosh is in cus- tody facing seven charges including two counts of assault with a weapon. The 32 -year-old mother of two allegedly entered a Canadian Tire store and became agitated and threatened to kill "white people" to avenge bombings in Syria. "I'm here for Syria. I'm going to kill everybody," the woman reportedly screamed. "I want to kill all you white people. I'm from ISIS. I'm from Syria," she allegedly told shocked onlookers. "You people are killing my people. You people are dropping bombs 011 my people." Dughmosh allegedly shouted "Allahu Akbar" — God (Allah) is greater — before swinging a golf club at employees, at the time of bloody terrorist attack in London. She apparently pulled a large knife, described as a butcher's knife, from her clothes but was subdued by store staff. In court, before her bail hearing began, she pledged allegiance to ISIS and its self-proclaimed caliph Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. Police and the RCMP are probing Dughmosh's travel past, her place of worship and her associates. It's not yet clear whether this incident was a planned terror attempt, or whether she was acted out because of illness or inner demons. But clearly, if the reports are accurate, this episode was inspired in some way by global, Islamist terrorism. As U.K:s Prime Minister The- resa May observed following the deadly attacks this past week in London, we must be prepared to deal with a "new trend" in ter- rorism — inspired terrorism. Small scale attacks on innocent civilians with cars and knives What doesn't kill you makes you stronger My childhood days were tough, that actually might be an under- .tement, a better way of saying it --life was a struggle, and those times consisted with constant contests to live a middle class lifestyle, since my mother bat- tled through a slew of demons arising from drug addiction. Honestly though, I wouldn't change anything about my past because it callused my soul to prepare me for the real world. We lived off limited amounts of funds provided by the govern- ment of Canada through social assistance and baby bonuses. When the fridge and cup- boards lacked nutritional per- ishables, thankfully the local St. Vincent de Paul filled our hungry bellies with a care package. Sometimes the food was good, we received hamburgers and Column Shaun Gregory pork chops while other instances I dreaded opening the box of food as I may be surprised with powdered milk and Spam. My stomach turns thinking of that food, however when you're hungry, it's astonishing what you'll eat; perhaps that's why I respect eating the occasional Tim I Iortons breakfast sandwich that much more --it tastes so much better when you remem- ber what you ate decades prior. The hardest part of being pen- niless was elementary school Lunch; I had peanut butter and jam whereas the better part of my classmates chowed down on the latest Pizza Lunchables, it's funny to think about now because my simple snack was a healthier meal anyways. If you told Shaun Gregory the nutritional value comparisons at seven -years -old, I would have looked at you like you were crazy. I'm 32 -years -old now and I'm proud of the messed up life I've survived because I'm a fighter. There is not much I haven't witnessed in life, so when the messenger of misery knocks at my door, which seems to hap- pen a lot, with a smirk, my chest is out, my hands are clinched and I'm ready to square up for whatever comes my way. I turned my misfortunes to SEAFORTH HURON EXPOSITOR/CLINTON NEWS RECORD - HOURS P.O. Canada can continue to pre- tend we are immune to these attacks, or we can address them by fairly but fearlessly looking at measures to keep all Canadians safe, including stringent refugee vetting. advantages compared to people who have had a velvety upbringing. When bad things happen to these types of people, it crushes them, which is sad and I wish this upon no human being; if only the world were a happy place where only good things happened but regrettably it's not. On the other hand, in my case, when crap hits the fan, it's something I can deal with better than the average man because it's something I've grown accus- tomed to. When it occurs, I say to myself okay buddy we've been through worse situations, so let's map out a way to jump back on track.
