A couple weeks ago, C.H.S.S.
CommTech students spent a day
brainstorming ideas to bring
awareness to the Huron Residential
Hospice. Last week, other
CommTech students participated
in a similar activity, this time brain-
storming improvements to the
Central Huron municipality.
Once again, the project was part
of "ICE" training, which is an
aspect of the Specialist High Skills
Majors program at C.H.S.S.
(CommTech is a SHSM.) ICE
stands for innovations, creativity
and entrepreneurship.
They partnered with Central
Huron's Community Improvement
Coordinator Angela Smith to come
up with ideas on how to enhance

For many years, St. Anne's girls'
rugby has dominated the field,
winning the WOSSAA champion-
ships for the last nine years in a
row.
Coach Ryan Clancy said an
advantage they have this year is
that not many of their players
graduated; just three were in
grade 12 last year and have
graduated. While those three
were strong players, their core
last year was grade 10 and 11
students, now grade 11 and 12
students.
Next year may be more difficult
as they will see upwards of 15 play-
ers graduate this June.
However Clancy says they
have recruited six or seven
grade nine students. They also
have a few new grade 10 stu-
dents, and even a couple new
grade 12 students.
"It's rare for us to get a few new
grade 12s," he said. "But a few
could athletes wanted to come
play, and it looks like they're really
going to help us. Even though they
are less experienced, they've
already proved to be very capable
on the field."
He also said their numbers are
up from last year. They had 23
players then, and have 30 now.
They played their first league
game on Friday, April 21, beating
F. E. Madill 36 to 5.
However they have already
played two exhibition tourna-
ments in Exeter and London.
"I was very happy with how the
girls played," said Clancy, noting
that they beat some very skilled
teams, including Ursuline College
Chatham and St. Mary's in Owen
Sound.
They have four regular season
games, and then Huron Perth
championships are at St. Anne's
on Tuesday, May 16. They must
win that to move on to WOSSAA,
which they are also hosting at St.
Anne's, on Thursday, May 18.
needs, and then to come up with
solutions to those needs.
All morning they came up with
ideas and refined them, and in
early afternoon, pitched their ideas
to Smith. They will continue to
work with her to make those ideas
come to fruition.
"They've got some really fantas-
tic ideas, and there's definitely
some consistencies," said Com-
mTech teacher Jacqui Vercruyssen.
One specific area they discussed
was food and the lack of options for
that in Central Huron, as well as more
space for arts and photography.
