Generals staying active before the playoffs
Shaun Gregory
Huron Expositor
The season is drawing to a
close for the Seaforth Gener-
als, playoffs are days away,
and they're not letting a
record of (3-44) portray their
destiny.
They have created a buzz
before their last regular sea-
son game by recognizing
their "loyal Gens Fans." The
Canadian Premier Junior
Hockey League (CPJHL)
—17—mi iopened the Seaforth
arena's doors for their last
game with no admission fee.
Gearing up for a clash on
ice through three gruelling
practices a week and some
players attempting to a gain
a few pounds of muscle mass
with a workout regimen at
Seaforth Fitness, coach and
owner of the Generals T.J.
Runhart said the boys are
well primed.
March 2 Runhart revealed
to the Expositor during an
interview that one of the two
players billeted at his home
was coincidentally headed
to the local gyre to pump
iron at the very moment.
"The boys have been hit-
ting the gym regularly,"
stated Runhart.
Since the Generals fin-
ished their regular season,
other teams are still playing,
so their opponent has yet to
be announced, though Run -
hart sees this opportunity as
an unruffled contest.
The pressure has been
lighter lately because most
likely the team with one of
the best records in the
CPJI IL will be facing them.
Runhart is poised that this
will be an easier task if they
perhaps make it to the later
rounds of the playoffs.
A further aid in engraving
a win is the three new team
members he signed before
the deadline three weeks
ago. They added a trio of for-
wards to the roster with one
being Seaforth native Jack
Buckley.
"Ile took a year off from
midget hockey in town, he
had a real knack to get back
on the ice, so he decided to
plav the rest of the year for
the Generals," said Runhart
concerning the new 16 -year-
old forward.
Currently the Generals are
waiting for the season to
conclude, their challenger is
unknown however they have
been informed that they will
be suiting up for a home
playoff match March 12.
This series is what Runhart
calls a "tentative game,"
which means the team to
score the most goals in two
games proceeds to the
semi-finals.
"If we go there and lose
2-1 and we come to Seaforth
andwin3-1, then we win the
series," explained Runhart.
"It will be exciting I hope we
can get a lot of people out on
March 12."
Hockey game fundraiser, Huron OPP vs Huron East Fire Dept.
On Saturday, March 25,
the Huron East Fire Depart-
ment will face off against the
Huron OPP in a fundraising
hockey game to support Vic-
tim Services Huron County
and the Canadian Mental
Health Association. The
game will take place at the
Seaforth Arena at 2:00 p.m.
"Talk throughout the
county is Huron East is a
hotbed for hockey talent,
and from what our scouts
tell us, Huron East Fire has
quite a talented team," said
Jamie Stanley, Huron OPP
Community Safety Officer
& Team. "So we have
answered the call and will
be bringing our I luron OPP
Ice Hogs' Elite Squad to
town for this exciting
match. The Ice Hogs have a
balanced roster this year
with some veteran leader-
ship and some youthful
skaters. This elite squad will
be led by our stalwart Cap-
tain, Sergeant Andrew

"If 1luron East hire brings
in some of their homegrown
NHL talent, then they might
have an outside chance at
keeping this game close oth-
erwise they might as well go
back to shining up their
fancy trucks," commented
the soon -to -be -retired Right
Winger, Police Constable,
Mark Gransden.
"As the fire builds between
these two highly impact
teams, and the noted hotbed
for hockey talent in Huron
East, we've made a strategic
move to keep our veteran
talent off this team to keep
the score competitive," said
Marty Bedard of the Huron
East Firefighters - also
known as the "Huron East
Smoke Eaters." "It has been
mentioned that O.P.P. stands
for "Occasionally Pass the
Puck." With that strategy in
mind, we only have to cover
one player at a time.
"Because we understand the
Move Over Law and don't
want to receive any tickets,
the only way they will get the
puck to our net is if they put
it in their cruiser with all the
lights flashing."

Kendall Jardin, a young
musician from Belgrave, will
sing the national anthem.
"We hope both teams play
well, and however the out-
come, we know one of us will
finish no lower than second
place. All for a good cause,"
said Bedard.
Silent Auction prizes will
be available during the
game. Tickets are $5.00 each
and can be picked up at the
Victim Services Office inside
the Seaforth Arena or call
