Justine Alkema/Clnton News Record
Clinton Public Hospital is one of four in the Huron Perth Healthcare Alliance (others are Seaforth, St. Mary's and Stratford); the alliance
was one of nine out of 70 hospitals in Ontario that recorded all its deaths to Ontario's organ and tissue donation agency in the first and
second quarters last year.

The Huron Perth Health-
care Alliance (Clinton, Sea -
forth, St. Mary's, Stratford
hospitals,) was recently rec-
ognized along with nine
other Ontario hospitals for
its commitment to organ
donation.
Out of 70 hospitals/hospi-
tal alliances, only nine
achieved a "100 per cent
routine notification" rate for
the first and second quarter
of the Trillium Gift of Life
Network's fiscal year. The
1-IPHA was part of those nine
in both quarters (some were
different in either quarter)
from April 1 -June 31 and July
1 -September 30 (informa-
tion past September 30 is not
yet available).
"100 per cent route
notification" means 100% of
all deaths were recorded to
the Trillium Gift of Life Net-
work, Ontario's organ and
tissue donation agency.
This might not mean any
of the deceased were able to
be donors, but that the hos-
pital did their due diligence
in reporting the deaths.
While the average rate of
routine notification in hospi-
tals in Ontario is 95 per cent,
not many hospitals report
every single death.
"If [the Trillium Gift of
Life Network] is not called,
there's no way for dona-
tions to happen," said the
Network's Media Relations
Coordinator Jennifer Long.
"It really is amazing to be
part of those top nine hos-
pitals," she noted especially
for the two quarters in a
row.
Seaforth set to be destination for human trafficking workshop
Victim Services I-luron is
hosting a one -day Human
Trafficking Community
Building Workshop on
Wednesday, March 8, 2017
geared for law enforcement
and social service providers,
schools, hotel establish-
ments, and the public. The
event will be held at the Sea -
forth Community Centre,
122 Duke Street, Seaforth
from 8:30am to 4:30pm.
Timea E. Nagy, a human traf-
ficking survivor, author, inter-
national trainer, and social
advocate, will present the work-
shop.
orkshop. Timea founded "Walk
With Me Canada
Victim Services," a non-profit
organization, which provides
shelter and services to survivors
of human trafficking and edu-
cating and training law enforce-
ment, and raising public aware-
ness. Iter journey was
chronicled at the Canadian
Museum for Human Rights in
the Turning Point Exhibition in
2014 and she is the recipient of
the Prime Minister's Volunteer
Award and the Queen Elizabeth
Diamond Jubilee Medal.
"This will be a great oppor-
tunity for the community to
come together as a united net-
work to learn ways in which
we can prevent, identify, and
stop human trafficking," said
Deborah Logue, Executive
Director, Victim Services
Huron. "Participants will leave
the workshop with general
knowledge of the warning
signs, how human trafficking
can be reported, ways to com-
municate with victims, and be
a part of building a support
network within our
community."
Most people tend to think of
human trafficking as an inter-
national issue when in fact
Ontario Network of Victim Ser-
vices Providers reported that
93% of Canada's trafficking vic-
tims came from Canada. OPP
report that roughly 65% of all
police -reported human traf-
ficking cases in the country are
in Ontario. This workshop will
promote awareness that
human trafficking may be
occurring in Huron County and
not being reported.
This workshop will be a great
networking opportunity and
will offer the skills to identify
human trafficking in our
county, to pool our resources,
and work together to provide
the best support possible for
victims of human trafficking
and sexual exploitation. Tickets
are available until March 1st at
$40.00 each. I ,unch is included.
