Your wedding day shouldn't put you in debt
So my girlfriend and 1
have been together for
nearly a decade. In that span
we've managed to
accumulate a bus load of
kids, well four to be precise,
plus two dogs with one sadly
reaching that age that leads
to the pearly gates -I'm often
asking thyself these days,
"When are you going to tie
the knot?':
There is no rush at the
moment, but the thought of
a white wedding always
seems to sit in the back of
my mind.
My children have the
letter to the editor
Column
Shaun Gregory
same last name as me; it's
only logical for us all to
share matching
identification.
Since this is my first
journalism gig directly out of
college and working as a
community newspaper
reporter, extra funds in the
range of $20,000-S30,000 are
a mission that's impossible.
Is that really necessary?
'I he answer is no.
I actually have mapped
out a blueprint of how I can
get married without having
to spend thousands of
dollars.
Instead of renting a
decked -out hall, you find
someone with a big scenic
backyard and you rent
chairs.
There is nothing like some
fresh air and sunshine,
which I believe is a viable
alternative to being
cramped indoors.
Of course food is a
necessity, with saying that,
you buy the food yourself
and hire an experienced
chef; I would suggest a
student nearing his or her
Red Seal papers. I'm sure
this person would charge a
rate quite a bit cheaper than
a caterer. Buy a nice, but
reasonable cake, rent a suit,
and buy the bride a nice
dress.
I lire a minister to say I do.
The reality is that the rings
will be the most costly, so
maybe start this process well
before any financial plans
are implemented.
As 1 get older, it appears to
me more with each day that
money just isn't everything,
if you love your significant
other, then a white wedding
dress worth as much as a
vehicle is just not necessary.
Neither is a bouquet of
roses on each table
accompanied by a bottle of
S50 wine.
"this is all just my opinion,
however I feel there are
many people in the world
that share the same views
when it comes to getting
hitched.
It shall be a night you,
your friends, and family
never forget.
Take pictures, have your
guests videotape your
special day and send you
copies. If you are with the
people you love most, in
10-20 years, when you press
play, the video will be just as
special as if you had spent
thousands of dollars.
Money doesn't buy
happiness; it's not even a
necessity to make your
wedding day a memorable
event.
Response to "Huron River villa residents tackling feral cat problem"
Dear Editor:
Contrary to assertions
Made by trap -neuter -release
(TNR) proponents, trapping
and abandoning cats is
neither humane nor
effective ("Huron River Villa
residents tackling feral cat
problem," 1-25-16).
Such programs can
actually cause homeless cat
populations to increase
because more people are
likely to abandon their cats
if they think the cats will be
"cared for" and because the
food set out for "managed"
colonies makes un -trapped
cats better able to
reproduce and attracts
more cats (as well as
wildlife, including rats and
rabies vector species like
foxes and raccoons).
After experimenting with
a TNR program recently,-
Parry Sound, Ontario, had
`
second thoughts because, as
a council member noted,
"the number of feral cats
appears to be increasing—
as does the noise, smell and
general nuisance."
Nor does TNR protect cats
from the many dangers they
face on the streets, including
eezing temperatures,
deadly diseases, parasites,
speeding cars, and attacks
by dogs, wildlife, and cruel
people. The average lifespan
of an outdoor cat is just 2-5
years, compared to 12-15
years for a cat who lives
indoors.
Cat abandonment is
illegal because it's cruel,
and it's not the answer to
the homeless cat crisis. We
must focus on the root of
the problem by requiring
that all cats be licensed,
microchipped, spayed and
neutered, and kept
indoors.
Sincerely,
