HEAT hoping to meet with HurwBryce MPP with concerns
Residents asking for epidemiological study on effects of wind turbines on health

io, told the province recently that
more wind turbines should not be
built until rigorous epidemiological
studies are done to get a definitive
answer on the turbines' impact on
human health.
Tetu says HEAT is also hoping to
meet with Huron -Bruce MPP Carol
Mitchell tomorrow (June 11), when
the group will ask for her support
pushing for a province -wide mora-
torium on wind turbines until an
epidemiological study is done on the
health effects.
"Failing that, we'd like to see a set-
back of 1.5 to two kilometres," says
Tetu. "We're all in it for the big pic-
ture now, regardless of what we get
out of it." -
Tetu says there are still several
outstanding questions HEAT is con-
cerned about related to the two proj-
ects planned for the St. Columban
area.
Because Tundra swans fly through
this area "in a very narrow migratory
corridor," Tetu says CASA Engineer-
ing and Construction's plan to drain

MUNICIPALITY OF HURON EAST
CLASS ENVIRONMENTAL ASSESSMENT
FOR SANITARY SEWAGE SERVICING
(COMMUNITY OF EGMONDVILLE)
NOTICE OF PURIM" INFORMA'T'ION MEETING`:
THE PROJECT:
The Municipality of Huron East is undertakinga Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA)
to determine the most appropriate method to extend municipal sanitary servicing to the community of
Egmondville. Phase I of the study, which was, completed in late 2008, established a need within the
community due to deficiencies identified with existing on-site sewage disposal (septic) systems. The
second phase of the study was initiated in January 2009 and included consultation with agencies and a
review of various servicing alternatives available to extend municipal servicing to Egmondville. Several
servicing options have been selected by the Technical Steering Committee (TSC) for more detailed
analysis and are being presented to the public for additional review and input.
CLASS EA PROCESS:
The, planning for this project is following the environmental screening process established for
Schedule B activities under the Municipal Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) document.
Schedule B projects are approved subject to the completion of Phases 1 & 2 of the Class EA process.
The purpose of the screening process is to identify any potential environmental impacts associated
with the proposal and to plan for appropriate mitigation of any impacts.
PUBLIC INVOLVEMENT:
As part of the public consultation program developed for this project, a public information
meeting has been scheduled to advise residents of the current study investigations and to receive
additional input from interested parties.

year will not protect the endangered
species.
"The only difference if they drained
the pond would be they wouldn't
land here. That wouldn't stop them
from going through," he says.
And, while 100 swans landed on a
pond near St. Columban this year,
Tetu says thousands actually travel
through every year on their way to
the shores of Lake Huron, where
they are a tourist attraction.
Tetu says he's also concerned about
bats and various songbirds which
could be killed by the turbines.
While CASA consultant Jose Me-
nendez said recently that he's re-
ceived fewer than 10 emails and
letters of complaint about the wind
projects, Tetu says he's certain that
number has grown recently. He
says that while the dozen commu-
nity members who originally sent
complaints and questions were ini-
tially waiting for a response, HEAT
has encouraged petition signers to
send their letters and concerns since
learning that the Ministry of the En-
vironment will be taking note of the
number.
Tetu says HEAT continues to be
concerned about setbacks of wind
turbines from residences since six
homes in the St. Columban area will
be 450 metres away from the pro-
posed sites. He adds that q ;; a 600
metre setback, 17 homes would be
situated within that radius.
"The problems with low frequency
noise in Ripley and Shelburne are
happening as close as 800 metres
away and stray voltage is happening
as much as one kilometre away. Four
hundred and fifty metres is basically
in your backyard," he says.
"There's lots of places you can put
wind turbines
in Southern On-
tario with 1,000
metre setbacks
but they just
not conveniently
close to power
lines," he adds.
Tetu says
Germany and
France are rec-
ommending set-
backs . of 1.5 to
two kilometres
for wind turbines
while Holland
is placing them
