A group of talented local golfers
gave it their best shot on Saturday
during the qualifier for the Canadian
Tour's Country Classic tournament
in Seaforth this August, but a 22 -
year -old from Georgetown came out
on top.
With a score of 70, Robbie Greenwell
earned the one and only spot avail-
able for the tour during the Chase
the Dream qualifier at the Seaforth
Golf Course.
Greenwell shot a consistent round,
scoring a 34 on the front nine and 36
on the back nine.
"I started off well and birdied on
holes two, four and seven," he said.
"But I made a mess of 18 from the
back of the green. I'm pretty disap-
pointed with, the way I finished. I'm
happy with the score at the end of the
day I guess, but it definitely could've
been better."
Greenwell, who graduated in De-
cember from the University of Mem-
phis on a golf scholarship, said after
the round he feels more comfortable
with the Seaforth course and is look-
ing forward to coming back to play in
the Country Classic Aug. 24-30.
"I think I'll know the greens bet-
ter," he said. "There are not too many
holes out there that I am dreading to
play because I don't like the looks of
them. Today I made some dumb mis-.
takes and you
definitely can't
be doing that.
When the tour-
nament comes
through, I'll just
have to play ag-
gressively."

golf when he was eight and began
playing competitively at age 10.
He arrived in Seaforth on the week-
end after participating in tourna-
ments in Florida and North Caro-
lina.
"Looking at the scores on the Cana-
dian Tour last year, I will just need to
make a lot of birdies," he said. "I can't
afford to make too many mistakes."
Seaforth Golf Club founder Ken
Doig congratulated Greenwell on his.
victory after the final scores of the 31
golfers participating that day were
submitted.
"Great round today son," Doig said.
"We'll all be looking forward to seeing
you come back in August."
Doig's_ granddaughter Robyn, 17,
was one of . the youngest players to
hit the greens during the qualifier
and the only female golfer out there.
"I was pretty nervous at the be-
ginning," Robyn says. "But I'm used
to playing against guys all the time
because there are only two members
here at this course who are girls my
age."
Robyn, who was in Greenwell's
group for the day,
finished with a
score of 87.
She's . played

and averages a
score of 75.
"Thday on the
front nine I had a
couple small er-
rors but thought
overall I played
pretty well," she.
said, adding that
she just recently
started playing
from the course's
purple tees, which are
placed significantly
farther back than the
white tees where she's
used to playing from.
Other players from
Seaforth who partici-
pated in the qualifier
included Darin Dick,
who shot a score of 89,
Alie Maxwell, who shot
a 75 and Brad Hender-
son, who shot a 74.
The first group teed
off just after 8 a.m.

"The wind is definitely a factor,"
said club pro Cam Doig as the first
groups started out.
Other players came from as far as
Hamilton, Newmarket, Oshawa and
Peterborough to compete.
Robbie Greenwell, of Georgetown, won
the Chase the Dream quarter on Sat-
urday and earned a spot to play on the
