Seaforth Horticultural Soclety kicks off another season looking or new members to join On March 11, 2009, the Seaforth and Dis trict Horticultural So- ciety kicked off the sea - Son with a potluck supper at Northside United Church. The speaker was Shirley.Koch of Riverbend Gardens and Nursery in Wroxeter. She spoke about various types of spring perennials and her slide -show of daylilies and hostas was most informative She gave us 3 daylilies for door prizes. New President, Ruth Smith chaired the meeting. Marilyn Norman read the minutes of the November meeting. David Nontan-pve the treasur- er's report and brought attention to the banning of pesticides for house- hold use, by the Ontario govern ment, effective April 22nd. As part of the new show and tell event, Peg DeJong had brought . pussy willows, forsythia, dogwood and a sprig of magnolia. Jan Hawley, Economic Develop- ment Officer for Huron East spoke about ways of promoting Seaforth, including the preparation of a bro- chure and the possibility of coordi- nating our planter boxes and bas- ket with heritage colours. - Lynda Smith spoke about- the Cancer Society, asking for volunteer drivers, to take patients for. doctor appointments or cancer treatment. Astrid Guntensperger spoke about the year book and asked for feed- back. Ruth Smith said that we are need of a new head for the Social Coin- mittee and .asecondvice president. Door prizes were drawn and the meeting adjourned. Seaforth and District Horticultural Society is in need of new members: We meet on the second Wednesday of the month at 7:30 p.m. followed by refreshments. We have every, level of expertise Seaforth & District Horticultural Society t.. • • .
