Council received a request from Grey Coun. Alvin McLellan to join the mu- nicipality's administration and per- sonnel committee and a request from Tuckersmith Coun. Larry McGrath to join the administration and personnel committee and the Seaforth and Dis- trict Community Centres' board. But, instead of replacing present members with replacements, council voted on two motions to add the two councillors to the present committees, both of which were turned down. i,ISINTEE t.> . A CO VI "I have no problem adding to the committees as long as we stay within our budget," said Mayor Joe Seili. But, McGrath pointed out that add- ing members instead of replacing them will add costs to the budget. McKillop Coun. Andrew Flowers, who sits on the Seaforth arena board, told council he thought committee membership should stay the same during the four-year term of council. "I think it takes the whole term to build trust with the people you're working with. After two years, I know I have people coming to me from the committee and I'm pleased with that," he said. Seaforth Coun. Joe Stefller, who also sits on the Seaforth arena board, said he thought the board is currently func- tioning very well. "There's been a vast improvement at the arena. The deficit is down, rev- enues are up, - morale is up and it's a good working environment," he said. Current members of the administra- tion and personnel committee include Mayor Joe. Seili, Deputy -Mayor Ber- nie MacLellan, Brussels Coun. David Blaney and Seaforth Coun. Joe Stef- fler. Tuckersmith Coun. Les Falconer was absent. Boards waiting for agreement From Page 14 "Local school boards ... have been stall- ing because they have been waiting for a provincial agreement," Clegg said in a Jan. -8 news release, referring to an earlier Nov 30 deadline defined by the Education ministry, aimed at securing so-called Provincial Discussion Tables (PDTs) as templates for local deals. ETFO was alone among Ontario teachers' unions (public and Catholic; secondary and elementary) in rejecting all PDT offers. At a regular board meeting Tuesday, Jan. 27, Avon Maitland trustees rati- fied the local OSSTF deal. In keeping with the PDT, the deal will provide three per cent raises each year. But it wasn't until Jan. 30 that board negotiators got back to the table with ETFO. And, in keeping with the Education ministry's warnings about failure to agree to a PDT, they've been informed that there will only be enough fund- ing made available for deals of two years in duration, and with annual raises of just two per cent.
