Seaforth girls lead Eagles' hockey team in scorin
Dan Schwab

With three leading scorers from
Seaforth, the St. Anne's Eagles girls'
hockey team is set to finish in fourth
place in the Huron -Perth standings.
The team will host the fifth place
team in the playoffs, either Listowel
or Stratford Northwestern, for the
chance to head to the Huron -Perth
championship tournament for the
first time in almost a decade.
Coach Ryan Clancy, who's been
with the team for the past six years,
says regulations have changed this
season to allow the top eight teams
to make the playoffs.
Before, only the top two squads
were allowed in.
"I think we have a chance," Clancy
says. "We have several younger play-
ers who are doing really well and a
good core of returning players."
Seaforth native Connie Finlayson
leads the team in scoring with 13
points in eight games.
Ashley Janmaat, also from Sea -
forth, is second in scoring with eight
goals and 11 points in seven games.
Seaforth's Brittany Nigh comes
third in scoring, with seven paints in
eight games. ' •

Team captain Jodie Keys also hails..
from Seaforth.
Most of the girls play together on -
the Seaforth Stars' midget squad. •
At the time this article was pub-
lished, the St. Anne's team's record
was five wins and two losses.
If they pass the first round of the
Huron -Perth league, they have the
opportunity to advance to WOSSAA.

Goaltender clinic at arena wraps up after
Seaforth's Bantam goaltenders,
along with a number of other goal -
tenders from Seaforth Minor Hockey,
wrapped up a 4 -week goaltender clin-
ic Sunday morning with 75 minutes
of solid puck -stopping and skating
drills.
Ten goaltenders from the area, rang-
ing from mite to midget, from begin-
ner to well -experienced, took advan-
tage of the clinic, the first of its kind
in Seaforth in many years.
The goaltenders were taught all of
the basics of netminding with par-
ticular attention to balance, position,
angles, lateral movement, and puck -
handling. "It's really amazing to see
how they come along after just a few
weeks," said Assistant Instructor
Derek Cooper. "A couple of the smaller
guys were a bit tentative at the begin-
ning and not quite sure of themselves
but now they can't wait for the next
shot." Cooper, along with instructors
Joel Dalton, Bruce Morton, Brett Lee,
and Clinic Organizer and Instructor
Gerry Gibbs, ran the on -ice portion
of the clinic while Gibbs also h a ed
the dry -land training during the st
3 weeks.
Bantam goaltenders Tom Gar-
rick and Macaulay Morton,
and Midget netminder Matt
Selvey took part in the clinic
and also helped out with some
goaltending demonstrations
for the younger students. The
other cagekeepers included,
PeeWees Jared Anstett, Zack
Vulders, and the always en-
tertaining Cameron Morton,
Bantam newcomer Brandon
Simpson, beginners Mitchell
McKee and Caden Lee (also
the youngest) and one brave
young lady who was always
ready to give the boys some
competition and never turned
away the chance to stop a puck,
Atom Girls Melissa Riley.
The clinic was very successful
as it gave the goaltenders four
solid hours of pure goaltend-
ing, something that regular
