of which The- Huron Expositor is a part,
announced it will cut 600 positions, including ..
dozens from the ranks of its newsrooms.
it is not new that news outlets adapt to new
technologies and delivery platforms. It hap-
pened with the arrival of the telegraph, radio,
television, cable and now the Internet.
But as more readers, listeners and viewers
_expect to get their "newer for "free," the depth
of the reportage we get is declining along with
the declining. levels of advertising revenue.
It is still i. ortant to have that journalist hit-
ting the streets to get the story and it's crucial
for informed and enlightened public discourse.
In the world of community newspapers, the
local is often the only place you'll find
paper
news from your own community, including bow
municipal politicians are spending local tax dol-
lars, the gains and losses of the local economy,
what'soin on in local schools and the results
' wg
of local sports teams. As well, you'll find stories
about how your community fits into broader is-
sues on the provincial and federal scene.
