Seaforth Golf Club prepares for Canadian Tour
Organizer says there's a volunteer spot for anyone who wants to help
Susan Hundertmark
While they've already recruit-
ed half of the 120. volunteers
they hope will help when the
Canadian Tour comes to the
Seaforth Golf Club next August,
organizers held a volunteer
information day over the week-
end.
"You can never have too many
volunteers," says organizer
Carolanne Doig.
While a number of the volun-
teer positions require a knowl-
edge of golf and the physical fit-
ness level to walk briskly
around the course, Doig says
there is a volunteer spot for
anyone who wants to help out.
"There will be a master plan
and we will plug people into
specific areas," she says, adding
that every volunteer will be
asked to do a minimum of two
shifts during the week-long
event.
While volunteers who know
the game of golf will be hand-
picked to become walking scor-
ers, other volunteer spots
include spotters, scoreboard
keepers, parking attendants,
ambassadors, ticket takers,
security,- driving range supervi-
sors, standard bearers and cad-
dies.
Doig says there will be oppor-
tunities for minor sports teams
to do litter control and she plans
to ask local schools to send their
track and field or cross-country
teams to serve as runners from
the ninth and 18th holes to the
scoring centre to keep the live
scoring on the Internet up to
date.
She adds that students looking
for a way to add some volunteer
hours to their required total in
high school should enquire.
Former Chicago Black Hawks
player Dennis Hull has agreed
to be the master of ceremonies
for the pro -am pairing party
when the Canadian Tour comes
to Seaforth.
The brother of Bobby Hull and
uncle of Brett Hull, Dennis Hull
played NHL hockey for 14 sea-
sons with Chicago and one with
the Detroit Red Wings.
"He's a friend of Cam's (Doig)
and he's been to Seaforth twice
before for a celebrity hockey
banquet and for a golf tourna-
ment," says Doig.
