And, both private and public meetings continue between the various healthcare bodies involved over the family health team. Whenever the discussion becomes public, at least some of the players regard any coverag0 of conflict- ing opinions as "negative." But, I would argue that it has only been during times of public debate that any progress has been made. And, I would argue that if discussions had remained public throughout, it's likely that things would not have dragged on for so long. Yes, exercising our freedom can be negative and messy. But, you can't wear a poppy on your lapel and argue that public debate has no place on the pages of your local newspaper. • 4) 1Z F - (.3 I ) u are invited to attend these area churches ST. Tb1 Nihon News New Huron Heritage Fund restoring Bayfield cenotaph and Vanastra gates Two stone structures are closer to restoration for the future. At their October meeting, Huron County Council approved an application from the Bayfield Cenotaph Restoration Project for $5,000, and from the Municipality of Huron East for $3,435 from the newly created Huron Heritage Fund. The project scope for the Bayfield War Memorial Cairn will include rehabilitating the memorial, landscaping, and replacing the flagpole. Estimates for the entire pro- ject are approximately $28,000. The project is a collabora- tion of the Clinton Legion, the Bluewater Heritage Committee, the Bayfield Historical Society, Bayfield Community Group, and the Municipality of Bluewater. An application to the Department of Veterans Affairs has also been made for funding. The second project approved was to restore the masonry of the Vanastra gate posts. The gates and posts had received heritage designation for their architectural and heritage value in 1984 as they served as the main entrance to the radar base, the first one constructed in Canada in the 1940's. "These are the first applica- tions approved under the new Huron Heritage Fund," said Beth Ross, Director of Cultural Services for the County of Huron. "I am pleased that we had interest from two different areas of the county and so soon after the grant program was developed. This shows a high level of interest in pre- serving our heritage." The purpose of the Huron Heritage Fund is to encour- age the preservation of her- itage assets and activities of heritage importance to the County of Huron and its resi- dents. Projects will assist in the preservation and restoration of heritage landmarks, his- toric buildings, and objects of historical significance not owned by the County of Huron. Heritage events and publications may also qualify for support under this program.
