While the Wood family has
been receiving steady
support since Ralph Wood's
ATV accident on June 9,
they were "overwhelmed" by
the community packing the
Seaforth Agriplex Saturday
and Sunday for their benefit.
"It's good to be home and
surrounded by friends and
family. We have countless
people to thank," Ralph's
future son-in-law Brian
Huggins read to the capacity
crowd at the benefit dance
Saturday night which sold
1,400 tickets.
"It's an awesome turnout
but we thought it would be

Wood organizer Danica
McNichol. "It's been lots of
fun and everyone has been
so generous."
More than 200 donations
were made to a Saturday

43 prizes were auctioned live
Saturday night. While the
Seaforth Optimists held
events such as horseback
rides and face painting for
kids, local musicians
entertained the crowd

"Talk about community
spirit - it was over the top,"
said Dianne Sunday after
850 people came out to a
benefit breakfast.

electrician and volunteer
firefighter, was on a fishing
trip in Wawa this spring
when the ATV he was
driving collided with a mini
bus.
Since cellphones wouldn't
work so far north, two
friends took off for help.
Ralph lay in the bush, with
his head propped in the lap
of another friend, for two
and a half hours before the
ambulance arrived - a

"He had a fracture in his

that while Ralph is now a

doctors say he could continue
to make some gains in
mobility over the next two
years.
