Canadian Tour coming to Seaforth
Skins game gives local fans a taste of professional golf corning in '08

The Canadian Professional Golf Tour
is coming to Seaforth.
While the date has not yet been
finalized, Canadian tour commissioner
and CEO Rick Janes signed the
agreement Saturday at the Seaforth
Golf Club with organizers Carolanne
Doig and Maureen Agar, bringing the
tour to Seaforth for the next three
years.
"I think this is a fabulous
opportunity for Seaforth. It's a great
case study on how a community can
come together and bring a major
sporting event to a small town," said
Janes.
"This is a golf club and a golf family
that is no stranger to professional golf
and I know we're in good hands," he
said.
Dan Halldorson, deputy executive
director of the Canadian tour, agreed
that the Doig family and the Seaforth
Golf Club will do a good job hosting
the Canadian tour.
"They know what the players want
and how to run a tournament because
they've been at so many themselves,"
he said.
The announcement was made after a
Canadian tour skins game where four
professional golfers played the
Seaforth course and competed for a
$5,000 purse. As well, the President's
Cup was on display at the Seaforth
Golf Club's clubhouse most of the day
Saturday.
Janes said the Seaforth tournament
will be a "must play event" during the
Canadian tour.
"Since the Seaforth date will be
towards the end of the season
sometime in August, there will be a lot
on the line for the golfers," he said,
adding that the money earned in
Seaforth will be pivotal to determine
which golfers qualify for PGA
qualifying schools and which win a
Canadian tour bursary towards
qualifying schools.
As well money earned in Seaforth
will also help to determine who wins
the Canadian tour player of the year
award.
Janes said that while the Seaforth
