Huron East to continue civic beautification program
Susan Hunderintark
•
While Seaforth will not be partici-
pating in Communities in Bloom
this year, the entire municipality
will receive some attention in civic
beautification this year.
"Because we were in a special
national classification, it was a one-
shot deal last year," says Deputy -
Clerk Brad Knight.
"We would have to complete
provincially first and then, that
might have to be all of Huron East,"
he says.
However, with the $15,000 bud-
geted for Communities in Bloom left
in the 2007 budget, Knight says
some of the beautification in
Seaforth begun under Communities
in Bloom will continue with new
projects also proposed for other
areas of Huron East.
At a recent meeting of the
Seaforth Horticultural Society,
Knight told members that red and
white will be the theme colours of
civic beautification this summer.
In Seaforth, the bridge boxes in
Egmondville and Seaforth will
again be planted and hung while
the boulevard gardens will be
expanded from two to four with two
more on North Main Street.

around the cenotaph will also be
continued this year.
Plantings are also being planned
around signs in the hamlets and vil-
lages throughout Huron East.
"If we can find a person to look
after it and water it, a garden will
be planted in each community," says
Seaforth Coun. Bob Fisher, who is
also involved with the civic beautifi-
cation project.
Along with beautification, Fisher
says he would like to see a farmer's
market and performing musicians
at Victoria Park this summer.
"We're hoping to get Tuesday
Tunes to perform at the park on
Thursday evenings from 6:30 to
8:30 p.m. following a farmer's mar-
ket from noon to 5 p.m.," he says,
Tuesday Tunes, a popular group of
fiddlers, guitar players and other
musicians, who play Old Tyme
music all winter at the Seaforth
arena, draw large crowds of musi-
cians and listeners from throughout
Southwestern Ontario.
Fisher says he'd also like to see
high school bands and local pipe
bands perform at the Victoria Park
bandshell.
"I've hoped and talked about this
for years. With the great support we
got last year for Communities in
Bloom, we can attempt to do a few
other things along with it," he says.
Reception to
celebrate PACS
at Alliance
hospitals
Celebrating a "milestone in
streamlining care for the patients in
our region," the Huron Perth
Healthcare Alliance will be holding
a reception April 4 at 10 a.m. to
mark all four hospitals' hook-up to
the Southwestern Ontario Digital
Imaging Network.
While the reception will be held at
the Seaforth Community Hospital
with a power point presentation out-
lining how the PACS (Picture
Archiving Communications System)
works, hospitals in Clinton,
Stratford and St. Marys will be able
to participate in the reception
through video broadcast.
PACS technology allows diagnos-
tic tests, including nuclear medi-
cine, CT scans, x-rays and ultra-
sounds to be produced with digital
images, which can then be trans-
ferred electronically.
While Seaforth has raised over 50
per cent of its $212,000 goal for the
first phase of fundraising, phase two
will involve a $350,000 campaign for
Seaforth to replace the x-ray unit,
says SCH foundation chair Ron
Lavoie.
