Eight local ladies will be playing in the Women's Tankard zone bonspiel in Hanover on March 25. "The age limit is 17 and up, so it's going to be wide open," laughed skip Brenda Jarrett, who will represent the local club along with Kay Johns, Carol Dutot, Connie Townsend, Brenda Edgar, Estella Higenell, Laurie Vanden Hengel and Crystal Van Dorp. Johns, Dutot, Townsend and Edgar also played in the intermediate regionals March 3- 4 in Dundas. "We did alright," Johns commented. "I thought we were going to get creamed because there were some pretty good teams there, but we held our own." The team won their first game against Blenheim and then lost to Burlington and Brantford. Jarrett had planned to play in both tournaments, but may not take the ice due to an injury. Another team - consisting of Te -Anna Cressman, Kathy Glen, Leanne VanLoo and Dawna Glen - vied for zone and regional Tim Hortons Trophy last month. With just two teams competing locally, the Vanastra squad automatically qualified for the regional bonspiel in Woodstock Feb. 17- 18. After a loss to Ilderton, the team had to fight back for a chance to continue in the double knock -out tournament. Cressman said they did just that, recording wins over Brantford, Teeswater and Leamington before losing to Burlington in the 'B' final game. At a Scott Tournament of Hearts bonspiel in December, the team made it to the 'A' and 'B' final games, but fell to tough competition. "It was a pretty successful season for us and we're all quite pleased," Cressman added. The Seaforth and Vanastra clubs will be hosting a regional bonspiel on the weekend of March 31. All of the ladies, also play in the Vanastra league on Wednesday nights.
