Kids raise over $1,000 for Christmas Bureau
Hilary Long
Students at St. Columban
and St. Patrick's School in
Dublin held a Christmas
Bureau Toy Drive over the
past month.
During the month of
November each child was
asked to do extra chores
around the house to help earn
extra money for the Children's
Christmas Bureau.
Principal Judy Merkel said
teachers Joyce Devereaux and
Sarah Breen and the social
justice committee organized
the event which raised $1,120.
"As a Catholic school we are
fortunate to have many gifts
others may not have. This is a
way of giving back," Merkel
said of why the drive was
done.
"It teaches children that in
their own small way they can
make a difference," she said. '
Every child who brought in a
donation received an angel to
put on the Christmas tree
located at each school.
The teachers and students,
including Sarah Ulch, Grade
8, and Michelle Louwagie,
Grade 4, bought the toys and
other gifts last week. They will
be evenly divided between the
Perth and Huron County
Children's Christmas Bureau.
