Sunday school contributes to service
Winter arrived with a blast.
London felt the brunt of this storm
while we up here in Winthrop are
used to this weather and take it in
stride.
As Friday was a P.A. day the
buses didn't need to be cancelled
around here.
Sunday Service at Cavan United
Church was second Advent Sunday
and Connie, Kim and Amy Alcock lit
the Advent Candle.
Rev. John's sermon was titled.
" T h e
Unexpected.
Visitor . "
Christmas was sung by Irma Pryce,
Francis Hunt and Ruth Campbell.
The Sunday School contributed
several numbers - readings by Holly
Braecker, Grant and David Bolton,
clogging with Julie, Ashley and
Courtney Campbell, piano solo by
Holly Braecker, violin solo by Tyler
Ribey and Betty Glanville's class
sang a Christmas song. Farren Goos

"Change For A Quarter" provided the music for
Queensway's annual resident and family Christmas
Party, Sunday Dec. 10.
An excellent number of family and friends joined resi-
dents for the afternoon of .music, refreshments and vis-
,iting.
"Change for a Quarter" made up of Dwayne Martin,
Richard Gingerich, Kevin Steckle and Harold Matzek
played a wonderful selection of music in their own
unique jazz style.
Several Queensway women gathered in the sunroom
Monday afternoon for manicures in preparation for the
upcoming special Christmas events.
Everyone was also commenting on the beautiful
Christmas trees throughout our building decorated by
our own very talented staff member, Bev Hedden.
Now that the decorating is complete, we're feeling
more in the Christmas spirit.
Queensway volunteer auxiliary members met
Tuesday morning to organize assistance for the many
upcoming Christmas events.
Among them are the Christian Reform Choir Dec. 12,
Lakeview Gospel Singers Dec. 19, Carol Lebeau Dec 20,
Christmas Light Tour Dec. 21, John and Geneva
Heaman Dec. 28 and Bob Heywood Dec 31. We welcome
family and friends to join us for all of these special
events.
Residents gathered for euchre Wednesday afternoon,
playing several competitive games while others worked
on seasonal "Word Finds" which many enjoy, especially
after they've been enlarged on the photocopier making
them easier for those with sight impairment.
Coffee and news drew a good crowd interested in
perusing the local weekly papers and London Free
Press over piping hot coffee.
A favourite is always the section on the early files
where residents have on occasion read about their own
exploits.
Following coffee and news Joan Bradley, Food Service
Supervisor chaired the food committee meeting, seeking
input and opinions on the food service.
Food committee meeting is held monthly and family
members are welcome to attend with their loved one,
just call for date and time.
Music Therapy with Lisa filled the lounge area with
the sounds of Christmas Thursday morning and resi-
dents also enjoyed her piano music during their lunch
hour.
assisted on the
drums.
The Winthrop
area cloggers strutted their stuff
with Sherry McCall, Ann Bosman,
Marion and Carol Hunt, Grace
Dolmage and Susan MacDonald.
Greeters and collectors were Joyce
and Ross Ribey. After the service
the Sunday School sponsored a soup
luncheon.
Wednesday evening, the ladies of
Cavan got together for a delicious
turkey dinner with all the trim-
mings. After the meal Kendra
Jewitt of "Blooms 'n Rooms" demon-
strated simple and easy ways to
dress up gift wrapping.
The Christmas Eve service will be
held at Cavan this year. All are wel-
come.
THOUGHT FOR TODAY
The nice thing about Christmas is
that you can make people forget the
past with a present.
