Words cannot express how grateful I am for the
generosity of family, friends and neighbours for
phone calls, food brought to my home, lovely
cards, floral tributes and donations on the death
of my dear mother, Bertie Tubb on November 26,
2006 at the Ritz Lutheran Villa. A special thank
you to the staff of the Ritz Villa for their care and
compassion and also to the doctors and nurses
at the Mitchell Medical Centre for their care of
mother over the years. To Doug Jacob and the
staff at the Auction Centre, ones whom I
consider my extended family, your
thoughtfulness is overwhelming. Thank you to
Rev. Camillia LaRouche for her inspirational and
comforting service for mother. To the ladies of
Main Street United Church for preparing a
delicious lunch following the service. I wish to_
express my thanks to Paul and Jeff Lockhart for
their guidance at this difficult time. Sorrow at this
time is too heavy for one to bear alone, but I am
truly blessed to live in such a caring community.
My grateful thanks and deep appreciation.

THANK YOU
Four years ago I decided to collect coats for the
homeless. So far, I've collected around 454
coats, 190 of them being donated this year! I've
also had people knitting hats, mitts and scarves
and giving snowpants and boots. Of course, all
of these coats have not come from my closet.
Through family and friends, word. of mouth,
church and school, I have had many kind
people dropping them off to me. Thank you so
much, I couldn't do it without your help. I can tell
you that these people are so thankful to receive
such a gift. Please know that through your
generous donations, you make these people feel
special and as though someone cares for them
and they are extremely grateful. I thank everyone
for their support of my efforts and for their kind
words. Thank you, thank you, thank you,. - Abby

News
SPARK approaches
first anniversary.
Jennifer Hubbard
01111111.111
"Youth want to be heard
-- SPARK is their bull
horn!"
Youth team - members
James Wilkinson, Ivan
Raczycki, Shahriar Sabri.
and Katie Vanderhaar are
on a mission to break
down the barriers and
stereotypes facing today's
teens through
www youthspark.ca.
Approaching its first
anniversary in March of
2007, SPARK is a youth -
driven website tackling
tough local issues like
drug use, binge drinking,
sex and depression. The
project grew from the
2003 Get Huron County
Connected event.
The "first -of -its -kind"
interactive website
features personal stories,
local information and
events, open forums and
health professionals to
answer questions
anonymously.
In November alone, the
website saw 1,500 hits,
half of which were return
visitors.
"That's great because it
means people are liking
what they see," web
coordinator Erica
Horbanuik said.
And while a Dec. 6
Parents' Night drew no
parents, three members of
the SPARK youth team
offered a few suggestions
about how parents can
talk to their teens more
successfully.
Michael Roy, of the
Huron County Health
Unit's Youth Action
Alliance team joined in
the discussion.
Raczycki stressed the
importance of mutual
respect, including
respecting a teen's
privacy.
"Don't talk down to us,
but be direct and
personal. Be a parent, not
a friend," he said. "Keep it
casual, don't call a family
meeting. Don't talkto
your kids, talk with your
kids."
Wilkinson encouraged
parents to "sleep on it,"
rather than reacting
extremely.
"And don't say you're
disappointed. We can
handle you being angry,
but disappointed hurts,"
he added.
All four teens agreed
parents should make the
effort to talk to their teens
about sex.
"The first conversation
will always be the
hardest, but if you make
the effort we will at least
know you are interested,"
Sabri said. "It won't be so
awkward the next time."
Overall, the teens
recommended parents
remember to keep it
simple.
