"They came up on me pretty fast," recalled McLaughlin. "But I didn't even know they existed." McLaughlin never had any intentions of setting team or pos- sibly league records back in the off-season, yet he did set some very specific goals for himself. "I've always set a goal to double 'what I had last year (in points)," he said, adding he's surprised to already be 12 points ahead of his last year's total. McLaughlin was also able to double his 04/05 total of 18 points, when he finished last season with 40. "I expect a lot out of myself," explained McLaughlin, noting that during his first two seasons it was usually the older, more experi- enced players that were called upon to score goals. "But this year, it's my turn to step up and put the puck in the net. And I think I've the adapted well," he said. Another goal McLaughlin set out for himself this off-season was to be noticed by scouts and earn a U.S. scholar- ship for next season. McLaughlin, who is currently finishing a fifth year at St. Anne's, said he's already spoken to 15 schools inquiring about next year. The Lincolns finished the 05/06 regular season in first place, but came up one game short, losing in Game 7 of the WOHL finals. And with much of the team from last season still intact, McLaughlin said they all have their sights on another run deep into the playoffs. The Lincolns are currently second in the WOHL at 21-8-2. "We put high expectations on ourselves," said McLaughlin.
