Girls and
boys finish
fourth
at regional
tournament
St. James School's boys and girls travelled to
Clinton this past Monday where they compet-
ed in a regional volleyball tournament.
Playing eight games each, against teams
from St. Josephs in Clinton, St. Josephs and
Jeanne Sauve in Stratford, Our Lady of
Mount Carmel in Mount Carmel and St.
Boniface in Zurich, both the boys and girls
placed fourth.
"They played really hard and demonstrated
great sportsmanship," said boys' coach Jill
Dolmage.

At the beginning of this
past (WOHL) Western
Ontario Hockey League sea-
son, coaches of the St.
Marys Lincolns selected
third -year centre Mike
McLaughlin as one of two
assistant captains.
Wearing the 'A' on his jer-
sey has been an honour for
the 18 -year-old Seaforth
native, and along with it
has come a responsibility he
believes he's ready to take
on.
"My coaches really respect
me and the players respect
me. Our coaches labeled me
as one of our top players -
khi
Vi.
one of our leaders," he said
during a recent interview.
He added that he feels
along with the other team
captains, it is their responsi-
bility to "put the team on
our shoulders and get us
back to where we were last
year."
Undoubtedly, McLaughlin
has been doing that ever
since the season started in
September.
McLaughlin (as of press
time) is leading the Lincolns
with 59 points - over 10
points ahead of his team-
mates. He has netted 30
goals and has 29 assists.
He is ranked second in the
WOHL in points and has
Mike McLaughlin
had seven multi -point
games and six multi -goal
games.
McLaughlin was named
Player of the Month for
November and was recently
selected to the WOHL All
Star team.
What's even more impres-
sive however, is that with
still two months left in the
regular season, McLaughlin
has already broken two
team records, and is on the
verge of possibly setting
another team and league
record.
On Nov. 19, McLaughlin
broke the Lincolns' record
set in 1967 for the fastest to
record a hat trick. He netted
three consecutive goals in
13 minutes and two seconds.
One week later,
McLaughlin broke the
Lincolns' team record of 14
power play goals in a sea-
son, set during the 88/89
season. He is now up to 16
power play goals.
McLaughlin, with two
short-handed goals so far
this season, is also only
three away from surpassing
the Lincolns' record of four,
set in 1998.
And, at his current rate,
which would see him net 28
power play goals, he would
match the WOHL's single
season record, set during
the 94/95 season.
McLaughlin looks back at
at those recording -breaking
two weeks in November as
somewhat fortuitous, since
