receive manufacturing awards
Two Huron East businesses were recently recognized
by the Huron Manufacturing Association at the first
annual excellence awards ceremony.
CAP Products Ltd., a leading manufacturer of top
quality steel pipe fittings since beginning production in
1989 in Vanastra won the youth integration, award for a
medium-sized business.
"They're doing an excellent job bringing youth into
the manufacturing sector," says Monica Walker -Bolton,
coordinator of the Huron Manufacturing Association.
Walker -Bolton says CAP Products participate in coop-
erative work placements and hire a ,lot of young people
at the ,entry level.
"Sixty per cent of the current employees started there
when they were younger than 30," she says.
Barmy Tech, an industrial sewing centre in Walton
was recognized for corporate citizenship in a small
business.
Walker -Bolton says Barmy Tech is an environmental-
ly responsible company that uses vegetable ink dyes
and creates cloth bags that are a responsible alterna-
tive to plastic shopping bags.
She adds that Barmy Tech contributes bags to local
trade shows and community projects as door prizes.
As well, owner Dorothy Cummings is a major sup-
porter of the manufacturing association, serving on the
board of directors for several years.
Twelve awards were presented in six different cate-
gories.
Other winners in youth integration included R&R
Machine & Tool Inc. and Volvo Construction
Equipment.

_. PLAST Custom Moulding Ltd., Syfilco Ltd. and
Dashwood Industries Ltd.
