Huron Expositor, 2006-12-13, Page 3the condition of the stretch between
Seaforth and Mitchell.
Mitchell said while the priority
currently is to fix the section of
Highway 8 between Clinton and
Goderich, a meeting with the MTO
will determine if the section
between Seaforth and Mitchell is
"appropriately placed" on a work
list and "can we get more resources
to it."
"It gives Huron East an opportu-
nity to talk about their concerns.
You have a captive audience when
you're sitting in a van with repre-
sentatives of the MTO," she said.
Huron East councillors were
informed at their Dec. 5 meeting
that MTO representatives, along
with Mitchell and Perth -Middlesex
MPP John Wilkinson, would tour
the section of Highway 8 that coun-
cil has complained about to the
province.
"I hope it's slippery when they
drive it," quipped Seaforth Coun.
Joe Steffler, who raised the issue
more than a month ago that the
road was in dangerously rough
shape. .
Steffler reiterated his concern
that money spent on patches on the
highway could have been used to
"do a proper job" improving the road
and wanted to know a date when
the highway would receive the work
it needs.
McKillop Coun. Bill Siemon asked
that the issue of paving the shoul-
ders of highways in rural areas be
raised, pointing out that
machinery often
needs to pull
over to the side
to let traffic pass.
"We .should
have the shoul-
ders paved so
when farm
machinery has to
go there, it won't
cause dust and
accidents," he
said.
Mayor Joe Seili
pointed out that
with an:.

Municipalities of
Ontario (AMO)
session happen-
ing that day in
London, Ont., it
farm
was lucky that Deputy -Mayor
Bernie MacLellan was available to
meet with the MTO on Friday.
"We're trying to promote tourism
with the Shakespeare to the
Shoreline tour but people can't drive
on the roads," remarked Seili.
Wishing all of our friends
and neighbours a Merry Christmas
and a successful New Year.

Wintry weather prevents MTO from touring
Highway 8 section between Seaforth, Mitchell

Wintry weather prevented repre-
sentatives of the Ministry of
Transportation to inspect the sec-
tion of Highway 8 between Seaforth
and Mitchell on Friday.
But, the visit should be resched-'
uled, said Huron -Bruce MPP Carol
Mitchell on Monday.
"I have spoken to the minister and
she supports re -fixing the fix. It's
not a good patch," said Mitchell of

chooses Bill
Siemon as
third voice
at county
After two secret ballots ended in
a tie, Bill Siemon's name was the
one pulled out of a hat to become
the third Huron East voice at
Huron County council during the
next four years.
The former McKillop Township
reeve cited his 20 years' experi-
ence in municipal politics - includ-
ing one at county council - when
asking Huron East to send him as
council's third representative.
Siemon won a seat on Huron
East council this fall as one of
McKillop's two councillors.
"I will be effective working with
(Mayor) Joe (Seili) and (Deputy -
Mayor) Bernie (MacLellan),"
Siemon told council.
"There are rumours of single
tier government coming up again
and I'm totally against that," he
said.
"Welcome to the nuthouse, Bill,"
said Seili once Siemon was chosen
as the county representative.
Seaforth Coun. Joe Steffler also
asked council to send him to coun-
ty council, citing his 34 and a half
years working for Huron County's
roads department, including as a
foreman and fleets manager.
"I believe I still have their
respect and confidence," said
Steffler of the county.
As well, he pointed out he's in
his second year on Huron East
council.
"I'm now a sophomore," he said.
