The death occurred at Simeon o:n
Friday last of a^retired clergyman,
.Rev, Peter Nichol, in his 84th year.
'\Tr. Nichol was well known and inghly
respected M Exeter a few years ago,
when he visited with his soar, -in-law:
the, late Rev. S. F. Sharp of'tlxke Pres-
hyteran. Church, and for some weeks
occupied the pulpit of that church.
Besides his wife and daughter, Mrs.

Edith Heideman gathered to do her
honor by presenting her with a mis-
cellaneous shower, previous to her
marriage to Mr, Mervyn Goxworth of
Lon on. Lunch was served and the
evening was most pleasantly spent by

MEET AFTER 50 YEARS.
Mr. John L, Powell of Goldfield, Ne-
vada, :is visiting his brother, .dr
Stephen Powell of Exeter. As young
men the brothers parted in London
Township over fifty years ago, and un-
til, last Friday they had not met since
John went to the West and Stephen
for many years has been a resident
of Exeter. The former grimed gold
and silver in several of the western
States, and is now; still mining; but
under modem conditions, in Nevada:
He;,sayr, much of the gold to -day is
taken, from the ,old, ore dumps left by
the miners of many, years ago. He will
visit his brother for three wieeka,
GOLDEN WEDDING.
Mr, and Mrs, ,Henry Squires cele-
brated a ;very happy event :n their
golden wedding anniversary at the
home sof their daughter, Mrs. Orville
Cann on October 1st, 1923, in which
their children and grand children gath-
ered to do honor on that occasion
There are nine children, six daugh-
ters and three sonis; also 27 grand-
children. A. dainty fowl supper was
provided, the table being decogatt•ed
with flowers and other dainty things
After tea the 'evening was spent in
phonograph selections, songs, speeches
and recitations, after which, the hon-
ored 'couple were presented with • two
handsome chairs, accompanied by' the
following address: -
