make the trip for. the champi-
onships, says about half of the
Snipers ended up going, while the
other half was filled with available
players.
He adds that most of the Snipers.
have been playing together for quite
some time, even winning the nation-
al juvenile championship with the
Hitmen in 2000.
Since the local men's broomball
league just started, in which the
Snipers are 2-1, Gibbings says it's
difficult to say how the Snipers will
fare at the championships, especial-
ly since they've never gone before.
Either way, he adds, the Snipers
will have a good time.
"You don't have to qualify (togo),
but you're playing against teams
from around the world and that's
what's fun," he says.
The Snipers are guaranteed seven
games, beginning this past Tuesday
against a team from Lethbridge,
Alta.
Their other six games include
matchups against two teams from
Canada and the U.S. and one from
Australia.
This is the seventh year for the
World Broomball Championships,
which attracts mens, womens and
mixed teams from around the world.
This year there are 17 teams rep-
resenting Canada, 13 for the U.S.,
three for Australia, two for Japan
and one for Italy.
