Seaforth Community Hospital
(SCH) will be receiving $131,800,
including $25,600 to reduce
emergency room waiting times, as
part of a $142 million provincial
, emergency department action plan.
While the specifics of how the
funding will be used are not yet
known, SCH site administrator
Mary Cardinal said the extra
funding from the province is
welcome.
"We'll be taking some time over
the next few weeks to really take a
look at it and determine the most
appropriate way to allocate the
money. Emergency rooms have
been on everybody's minds," she
said Friday.
The McGuinty government
announced the plan Friday, giving
$13.2 million to Ontario hospitals
to retain and recruit emergency
room physicians andlaunch six
pilot projects to add physician
assistants and nurse practitioners
to emergency rooms.
"Our plan will help ensure
emergency rooms stay open and
will allow them to respond
effectively and efficiently to local
patient needs," said Huron -Bruce
MPP Carol Mitchell in a press
release.
"Our investment will strengthen
our health care system from
community-based care to our local
hospital(s)."
The intent of the funds is to
improve the capacity of the
hospital system, enhance critical
care capacity in hospitals and
create a "Better Access to
Emergency Care Fund," to reduce
