Hitmen have
Jeff Heuchert
The Central West Hitmen broom -
ball team is only three weeks into
the men's broomball league season,
yet their sights are already set on
qualifying .for their sixth trip in
eight years to the Canadian
Juvenile Broomball Championships.
Hitmen's coach Rob Hunking says
sights set on qualifying for championships
through two games this season the
Hitmen have recorded one win and
one tie, and had a week off.
But he says they've played those
games missing many of their regu-
lar players, who are away for school.
"We've got some new players and
some returning who will make a big
difference when they're playing," he
says, adding that he expects every-
one to return for the national quali-
fying tournament, being played in
Stroud (near Barrie) Nov 24-25.
At the qualifier, Hunking expects
the Hitmen will run into many of
the same teams they did last year,
especially from Windsor and Ottawa
- two cities with a large broomball
base.
"Some of the teams will have
improved that we'll be competing
against. Others have lost players,"

says Hunking, adding that the qual-
ifying tournament is usually the
first meeting between these teams
of the season.
So far this season, Honking says
he likes what he's seen from his
players.
"A definite strength is we have
speed this year," he says.
"You used to know when the coach
beat the players (running) it was a
slow team," he adds in fun.
Hunking also says his team is
very consistent, which will allow
him to -give more players more ice
time and use more lines.
The 16th Canadian Juvenile
Broomball Championships will be
played in Lethbridge, Alberta in
April. -
USFA inquires
about Eisler
suspension
The U.S. Figure Skating
Association wants to know from
Skate Canada why it suspended
Seaforth native Lloyd Eisler from
coaching for one year.
• Skate Canada, the national gov-
erning body of figure skating, has
declined on legal advice to publicly
reveal the reasons behind the sus-
pension.
Eisler, 43, is living in the U.S. and
is a member of the Los Angeles
Figure Skating Club where he has
coached in the past.
Skate Canada's harassment com-
mittee decided Oct. 3 to suspend
Eisler from coaching in Canada for
one year. It's hearing dealt with
Eisler's relationship with young
skaters during his time coaching at
--the West Kingston Skating Club
while he lived with his wife in near-
by Bath, Ont.
Eisler issued a statement Oct. 19
asking Skate Canada to reduce the
length of the suspension. He said he
regretted the situation, adding that
"I believe I have taken responsibility
and addressed any misunderstand-
ing of my actions."
The suspension resulted from sex-
ually suggestive emails sent to a 15 -
year -old who Eisler was coaching,
the Toronto Star reported.
Skate Canada did not forward
notice of the suspension to the
USFA.
