News Egmondville residents to pick up mail at community mailboxes Susan Hundertmark Egmondville residents have decided to col- lect their mail at community mailboxes at Elizabeth Park, said Tom Creech, corporate communications for Canada Post in London. "We had a 60 per cent response rate and 60 per cent of the respondents selected the com- munity mailboxes," he said Monday. While a post office has opened at Seaforth Mini Storage at 30 Mill Road on the outskirts of Egmondville, residents chose not to collect their mail at the new post office, which will continue mostly a$ a retail outlet for Canada Post. Residents were asked to choose between the new post office and community mailboxes by Oct. 13. Creech said about half a dozen Egmondville residents have chosen to pay the extra $85 to $130 a year to keep collecting their mail at the Seaforth post office. Egmondville residents have been collecting their.mail at the Seaforth post office since the Egmondville post office closed more than a year ago with the closure of the Egmondville Country Market. While it's not known yet when the commu- nity mailboxes will be built at Elizabeth Park, mail delivery will remain at the Seaforth. post office until the community mailboxes are built. Creech said 10-12 community mailboxes will serve the 300 customers in Egmondville. Huron East suggests hospital protect fundraised equipment Susan Hundertmark A letter suggesting the Seaforth Community Hospital foundation or trust retain ownership of all equipment bought by local fundraising will be sent by Huron East council. Tuckersmith Coun. Larry McGrath brought the idea to. council's Oct. 17 meeting after mulling over his concerns about provincial LHIN (Local Health Integration Network) legislation. "I wouldn't mind giving to the hospital but I'm not in favour of giving money for equip- ment I can't secure," he told council. McGrath, referring to a March, 2006 Canadian Press story quoting Conservative Leader John Tory that the LHINs legislation gives the Health Minister powers to transfer Luminette® Privacy Sheers soften light to set the perfect mood. "They (the government) said they wouldn't but they didn't say they couldn't," he said. McGrath suggested that if the foundation or trust owned all hospital equipment bought through community fundraising and leased it to the hospital for $1, the local municipality. would retain some power over its investment. "It gives people a sense of security if God forbid anything ever happened," he said. McGrath added retaining ownership of hos- pital equipment would also send a message to the Huron -Perth Healthcare Alliance and to the Ministry of Health about how much Seaforth valued its hospital. "We can't tell them (the hospital foundation) what to do but we can recommend it," said McGrath. Deputy -Mayor Bernie MacLellan told McGrath his idea was a good one. "There's nothing wrong with the reasoning behind that motion. We can give them the idea and they can bounce it around for them- selves," he said. "I don't think they (the provin- cial government) passes legislation if ley don't mean to use it," added Seaforth Coun. Lou Maloney. McKillop Coun. Ferg Kelly said he likes McGrath's idea but was con- cerned about how the equipment would be serviced if the hospital did not own it. Councillors also discussed whether it would be the hospital trust or the hospital foundation that would be suggested to retain owner- ship of the equipment. "We'll make sure we send the letter to the right source," said Mayor Joe Seili. ) I( (I \ I 1; 1\ I\ i\ f, \ I ; j 1 1 1( I\ 1 I 1\( r i; i\ 1 1 DECORATE FOR THE HOLIDAYS SAVE $100" when you purchase any 2 units of Luminette Privacy Sheers or Park Lane Privacy Sheers SAVE $100* when you purchase any 4 units of Silhouette Window Shediep or Nantucket Window Shadings * With mail -in rebate.
