program offered
in Seaforth
A new exercise program is being offered
in Seaforth, Vanastra and Brussels.
It's called the Flexible Fitness program
and its focus is predominantly on aerobic
exercises for young adults and adults, says
Vanastra Recreation Centre manager Lissa
Berard.
"We'll be doing a variety of exercises to
music - making routines for each song,"
explains Berard, who notes that it is not
dancing they'll be doing, but floor aerobics.
"But it will .be low impact - not 'a lot of
jumping or bumping."
Berard, along with Lorraine Dietz, of
Seaforth, and Ingrid Stryker, of Vanastra,
will rotate and teach the program at the
three locations. Each are trained certified
instructors.
The program will be begin at the Seaforth
Community Centre tonight (Sept. 20) from
6-6:45 p.m., ..at the Vanastra Recreation
Centre Sept. 21 from 7-7:45 p.m. and at the
Brussels, Morris and Grey Community
Centre Sept. 25 from 7-7:45 p.m.
The cost to register is
$40, says Berard,for
the six-week session.
However, for those
who have registered,
Berard says they can
attend all three ses-
sions each week if they
choose to, or any two,
or one.
"If you're busy on
Mondays, then they
can go on the
Wednesday or
Thursday," she says.
"You have three choic-
es, depending on what's
good for your sched-
ule."
Berard says these
first six-week sessions
are only one part of a
four session program
she's organizing and
that she expects the
program will continue
to develop further each
session.
"Our goal is to intro-
duce a variety of aero-
bic programs.
Hopefully we'll build
into some strength
training and step aero-
bics," she says.

registering can contact
Lissa at 482-3544.

Minor hockey executive disputes
ice times at Seaforth arena
Susan Hundertmark
Seaforth's minor hockey execu-
tive wants the Seaforth arena
board to put Seaforth users at
the top of their priorities when
booking ice time.
And, they're upset that a block
of ice time on Tuesday evenings
was given to another group, says
president Dan Primeau.
"We are their number one ice
users and I'm the one explaining
to parents why kids from Embro
and Goderich are coming here to
play when we have to go else-
where," says Primeau.
He says while Seaforth minor
hockey is using 30 hours of ice
time a week in Seaforth, it had
to go off-site for 118 hours last
year.
Primeau says with the growth
of girls' hockey increasing from
two to four teams this season, he
expects the hours at arenas in
Clinton, Brussels, Bayfield,
Zurich and Hensall could
increase.
"We will never be able to get
all our ice time here but we'd
like to see as much here as pos-
sible. Our parents built that
arena when we were kids. It was
built for Seaforth and area," he
says.
Seaforth arena manager Dale
Lamont says the arena board
decided to give the 6:30 to 8 p.m.
time slot on Tuesdays to another
group this year as a way of
"accommodating everyone."
"I see how they're frustrated
going out of town but we're try-
ing to keep the budget where it
should be," says Lamont.
Lamont says all minor sports
groups . from Seaforth get the
lowest rental rates and that the
user on Tuesday nights will pay
a higher rate.
He says because an adult user
group recently disbanded and
another adult user group is rent-
ing ice from minor hockey, rev-
enues at the arena are affected.
He adds the group using the
ice in Seaforth Tuesday night
has some players from Huron
East and the arena could have
lost the group to another arena
if the Tuesday night slot was
turned down.
"There are only so many hours
of prime time use and everybody
wants it. We're trying to keep it
fair to everyone and trying to
keep all the users at the arena,"
he says.
Lamont adds this is the first
time a time slot minor hockey
wanted was given to someone
else. -
As well, he says Seaforth
minor hockey has been given
two and a half more hours this
year than it had last year.
