Publication on Seaforth's
Main Street will accompany
historical walking tour
Susan Hundertmark
A second historical publication on the desig-
nated buildings of Seaforth is in the works,
says economic development officer Ralph
Laviolette.
Following the Doors Open - Huron East
publication, a 90 -page
booklet which gives histo-
ries of buildings through-
out the municipality, the
economic development
committee has applied for
provincial funding to pub-
lish a second on Seaforth's:
heritage district down-
town and its private desig-
nated houses.
"We've been okayed for
the initial concept," says
Laviolette, who adds he's
expecting the final word
about funding sometime in
September. "

have already been written about the historic
downtown buildings in Seaforth from the
main intersection to the railway tracks.
"We wanted to give some stories with depth
to all the designated sites in town," he says.
Aiming to combine the new booklet with an
historic walk, Laviolette invited the Huron
County Historical Society (of which he is the
current president) to Seaforth for feedback on
what's been written so far.
"Thirty people were walking up and down
Main Street and we got some excellent feed-
back," he says.
"There are very few designated downtowns
in Ontario and Seaforth is very fortunate to
have that. We wanted to ,take advantage of
that with the booklet," says Laviolette .
While most private homeowners haven't
been contacted yet, Laviolette says anyone
who lives in a designated house who wants to
share its history for the booklet should call
him at 527-0305.
Laviolette hopes to see the Seaforth publi-
cation finished this winter and begin on pub-
lications for Brussels and Vanastra.
