While a few of the games were lop- sided, in favour of Southwestern's opponents, there were some close matches, noted Veens. Against the Eastern Ontario Rugby Association, the girls lost 10- 5 and they almost came away with a victory against the Niagara Rugby Union, losing 12-10. Veens adds that for the most part, they were just outsized by their opponents. "We saw some huge, fast, skilled players," she said. While Veens and Costello were not able to score ` during the tourna- ment, Veens said Bruxer did score some trys. Most importantly, Veens said everyone had a good time and avoid- ed any serious injuries. "Nothing serious, just the usual bumps and bruises." W h i l e Costello and Bruxer will be past the team's age limit, Veens, who will be 18 in two summers - the next time the Summer Games are held - said she has every intention of joining the team again. "It was defi- nitely a great experience and I'll defi- nitely go back in two years," she said.
