Veterinary :.bills questioned Susan HunAtertmark Veterinary bills of $187 to put down an injured pig evoked some squeals of outrage from Grey Coun. Mark Beaven at Huron East council's Aug. 1,Xneet- ing. Clerk -Administrator Jack McLachlan told coun- cil the municipality's ani- mal control officer got Et. call after hours that an` injured pig had been found on the side of the road. "For that money, I hope it was cured. We paid more to fix it than it's :worth," said Beaven. "Sure it was. We had the barbecue when you were gone," joked McLachlan in response, adding the pig was put down. McLachlan added that the municipality routinely foots the bill to put down stray dogs at the rate of about one a month for over $100 each. Beaven complained louder when he heard the pig weighed 27 pounds and found on the road between St. Columban and Seaforth. "That's a weaner pig and it's worth $40 or $50," he said. McLachlan said during a phone interview later that the pig was in a vet's care for three days so the $187 included veteri- nary care, board- ing and an emer- gency call. 1' 4 M * * $ 4 ,F STAG & DOE for SARAH PLUNKETT & DERRICK VANDRIEL Friday, August 18, 9-1 Clinton Arena • Featuring DJ "The Neat Guys" $5 per person Age of Majority Lunch Provided * * * * * * * 4 • * w 9.
