The Altra Air fans, used mostly by dairy barns and large industrial buildings, began pro- duction in Seaforth during the past year, Sun -North's 20th year of operation. "We'd seen them (the fans) around a lot of different places and they fit into our philos- ophy of natural venti- lation. They're a very energy-efficient way of moving air," says gen- eral manager Philip Ashwin. Ashwin says dairy farmers love the giant fans to cool their barns in the sumiher since hot, still summer days affect the cows' milk production. Mechanic opens shop in Seaforth After working as a licenced Class A -mechanic for several years in the Lucknow area, Steve Fritzley has decided to open up shop in Seaforth, where he's lived for the past 10 y ars. I've got enough work to eep myself busy. I think there's enough ro m ' forone more hanic in Seaforth," ays. J. Fritzley Auto air, located on. erich St. E. where s Auto Sales used to me he S Rei Go Leo be, will work on all makes and models for both repairs and safety checks. Fritzley has also taken many specialty courses including cours- es on air conditioning and a truck and coach technician program, which he is still attend- ing in Guelph. "I've worked on diesels with International, Caterpillar and Cummins engines. Big or small, I'll do it," he says. As well, he's worked for GM dealers for over 10 years and Ford deal- ers for four years. Open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to ' 5:30 p.m. and on Saturdays from 8 a.m. until noon, Fritzley is a one-man operation. "The odd time you may see my helpers here - my wife and two boys, aged five and three," he says. And, while he opened a few weeks ago, Fritzley says business is good. "The day before I opened, people were coming to the door," he says. "The cooling effect of just a few degrees can help keep production up for the cattle," says Ashwin. The fans also work in the winter to redistrib- ute warm air from the ceilings of large industrial buildings, reducing heating costs. "The fans have great potential," says Sun - North owner Dan Lambert. While the main buyers so far have been located in Ontario, Ashwin says the product has poten- tial across North America arid eastern Europe. "We're really moving our products into eastern Europe in places like Finland, Estonia and Russia during the past five years because they have similar climates and they're really picking up on North American ideas," he says. Sun -North also produces natural ventilation systems and related accessories for the agricul- tural industry, including sliding panels for barn walls, insulated curtains, thermal windows, tun- nel vents, sun vents and poly -insulated chim- neys. Naturally ventilated buildings depend upon the natural forces of wind and temperature dif- ference (chimney effect) to move air, blowing wind through openings in the wall or roof.
