Clients rate Huron Perth Community Care Access Centres highly
Susan Hundertmark
Community Care Access Centres
(CCACs) in Huron and Perth
Counties are stacking up very well
compared to CCACs throughout the
rest of Ontario.
In Huron and Perth, 98 per cent
of clients rated the overall services
as good or excellent, compared to
only 66 per cent in Ontario as a
whole in a recent survey.
"We've always done client satis-
faction surveys but this is the first
year we've taken part in a survey of
13 CCACs across Ontario," says
executive director Kathy Scanlon.
"We thought we were performing
well but this is the first time we can
say it for sure," she says.
In a telephone survey conducted
by an independent agency, Huron
and Perth were the leaders in five of
seven areas and well above average
in all areas, compared to 12 other
CCACs.
Among the outstanding results,
100 per cent said the services
helped them stay in their own
homes, 99 per cent said the care
they receive contributes towards
their independence and 99 per cent

Another difference Kucerova
notes, "Everything is so far away.
I'm used to taking a bus to go to
another city - or country," she says.
"And we don't eat so much fast
food," she adds.
"Not to be rude," says Stajgis, "but
you don't always eat so healthy," he
says.
After four summers of travelling,
Kucerova says she doesn't plan to
participate in the exchange next
year.
"I've seen everything I wanted to,"
she says.
However, being only his first year
participating in the program, and
having been such a rewarding expe-
rience, Stajgis says he hopes to take
part in it again - as many times as
possible.
"I would like to meet new people
around the world and strike up new
friendships," he says.
would recommend the CCAC ser-
vices to family members.
As well, 93 per cent said the over-
allservices met their needs and 85
per cent were fully satisfied with.
the nursing care they received.
"We are doing really well but
there's always room to grow. We
continue to look at client feedback -
that's ongoing," says Scanlon.
She says that while recent
increases to funding will help the
CCAC meet the needs of more
clients, the level of service td cur-
rent clients should always be high.
"You want to look at the way you
do what you're able to do. Attitudes,
knowledge, caring and respect
should be demonstrated at any
time," she says.
Scanlon says the results were
very rewarding for staff.
"Our staff work very hard and
they're very caring people. This was
very validating for us," she says.
CCAC clients include people with
disabilities, those who have recently
been discharged from hospital and
those who are receiving end -of -life
care at home.
CCAC case managers assess
client needs and arrange with con-
tracted providers for nursing, per-
sonal support, therapy and other
services to give clients the care they -
need.
