Fourth annual tractor pull
scheduled for this weekend at Agriplex
Event organizer hopes for no rain, after being rained out last year
Susan Hundertmark
Steve Fritzley is hoping that any
noise heard in Seaforth this week-
end will be the sound of high-pow-
ered truck and tractor engines, not
the sound of thunder.
While he's hosting the fourth
annual tractor pull in Seaforth this
year, rain has been plaguing the
event for the past three years.
"We were rained out last year,
rained out a quarter of the way the
year before and rain interrupted the
dance the first year when the hydro
went out," he says.
That's one of the reasons Fritzley
has changed the event's weekend
from the third to thefourth week-
end in July.
And, he's hoping for 2,500 people
at the event.
"I've been watching the weather
forecast twice a day for the past
week and as of now, there's no rain
forecast for .Saturday. I figure the
weekend should be dry," he says.
Dry weather is important for safe-
ty as souped -up trucks and tractors
compete at the Seaforth Agriplex
pulling a weighted sled along a dirt
track that needs to be groomed for a
week before the event.
"This is an event for anyone look-
ing for power, noise and dirt flying
in the air," says Fritzley.
The pull will involve members of
the Central. Ontario Tractor Pullers'
Association and draw competitors
from across the province and into
the U.S.
"We still have high horsepower
tractors and trucks and there will
be a few new classes," he says.
"A lot of time and money is spent
on these tractors. From setting car-
buretors to fuel ratios, there's an art
to getting the right modifications,"
says Fritzley.
The racing :begins at 4 p.m. and
the day ends with a dance to the
band Susie Q and Mr. B. A beer gar-
den will also be offered during the
event.
Fritzley is a board member of the
Seaforth Agricultural Society, which
is hosting the. event.
