Team from area advances to Canadian Lawn
Bowling championship in Saskatchewan

MIMED
Carol Carter has come a
long way since 1999, when
her team of lawn bowlers
were considered underdogs
at the Canadian Lawn
Bowling championship.
Now, roughly one month
before travelling. to Regina,
Sask., for her fifth nationals
in seven years, Carter, who
lives in Mitchell and bowls
with the Seaforth club, just
might be in the team to
beat.
"We hope they are a little
scared," she jokes, referring
to the other competitors.
"But anything can happen
on any Oren day - just like
any sport."
Carter won gold at the
nationals in 1999 and 2004
in fours, and 2005 in pairs.
She also picked up a silver
in fours in 2000.

Yet, with so much success
already behind her, Carter
remains quite modest about
her team's accomplish-
ments.
"It's unbelievable (to be
going to the nationals
again). To think of the
process (to qualify), and
think this is my fifth time,"
she says.
"It's very hard getting out
of Ontario," where there are

- more than any other
province.
But there might be one
member out of the four, who
is a little nervous heading
into the nationals, according
to Carter.
"Carole," she says, refer-
ring to Carole Fuller, who
shoots second and bowls at
the Exeter club, "has never
bowled at this capacity
before, so she's excited."
"She was pretty emotional
at the provincials," Carter
adds. •

keeps motivating
Carter to compete.
"It's amazing
because you get to
meet so many peo-
ple," she says. "I
wouldn't lawn bowl
if I couldn't chat,"
adding "But I

Carter first
bowled with her
new team at the
districts, which
were held in May.
And not surpris-
ingly, they won.
And they did so
again at the
provincials in
June.
"I don't' feel like I
bowled to my
potential (at the
provincials). Now
I've had four weeks
to practise and I
feel more comfort-
able," she says.
And in regards to
her team she says, "We
know everyone is trying
their best and we got along
great."

mind, Carter says her goal
at the nationals is to work
together with her team and
try her best, and "hopefully
we'll be successful."
