but the rumours
couldn't be confirmed,
said Clerk -

"We know there was
a lot of damage to
trees and there are
still branches on
powerlines and: some
roads closed but we
haven't heard of any
damage to homes or
buildings," he said.
Gail Schroeder, of

for students

With4 love for athletics, Tymen DeWeerd, of
Seaforth, entered last week's MedQUEST camp
leaning towards a job as a team trainer or
paramedic.
But, after some hands-on time job shadowing a
physiotherapist, he's really interested in
physiotherapy now.
"She let me help instead of just watching and I
just loved it," he said.
And, it doesn't hurt that he learned the
physiotherapist is going to a world lacrosse
tournament as part of her job.
While she was "grossed out" . by some of the
fake wounds at the mock disaster at Goderich
airport on Friday, Laura Mero, of Egmondville,
still wants to become a family doctor.
"The hands-on experience helped me see what I
would actually be doing," she said, adding that
she loved trying suturing wounds and applying
casts.
The MedQUEST camp, held last week in
Seaforth, gave 25 Grades 10 and 11 students
from Huron and Perth Counties a close-up look
at various medical careers.
Along with suturing "wounds" on stuffed
animals and giving injections to oranges, the
students job shadowed healthcare professionals

Seaforth and Clinton will be
proceeding with two separate family
health teams (FHTs) after a meeting in
Seaforth last Thursday with Ontario
Health Minister George Smitherman.
"One will be more clinical and one
will be more community -driven. They
can go in their own directions and it
will give back to what each community
needs," said Huron -Bruce MPP Carol
Mitchell the day after the meeting.
Mitchell said Dr. Dan Rooyakkers
from Seaforth and Dr. Keith Hay, from
Clinton, were very pleased after their
meeting with Smitherman.
"They said there will still be
opportunities to share their knowledge
and services," she said.
In the spring of 2005, Seaforth was
one of the first 52 family health teams
to be approved by the province.
Seaforth's proposal aimed to look after
orphan patients throughout Huron,
starting in Seaforth and eventually
creating satellite offices throughout the
county.
Early in 2006, Clinton doctors began
talking about joining with Seaforth in
its FHT proposal but during closed
meetings of the FHT steering
committee to create a business plan,
questions about doctor remuneration
became an issue and concerns were
raised about Seaforth losing its chance
at a FHT.
When the steering committee sent its
