Pool re -opening attracts 200

Close to 200 people gathered in the sun-
shine on Sunday afternoon to' celebrate the
grand re -opening of the Lions Pool after the
completion of $225,000 in repairs.
Lions Club president Bill Teall thanked the
community for its "overwhelming support" for
the pool project.
While the pool has been open for more than
a week for swimming lessons and other pro-
gramming, Teall said the stairs and lifts for
handicapped and elderly swimmers were still
expected to be installed in the coming week.
Seaforth Coun. Joe Steffler, representing
the Trillium Foundation, presented the
$40,000 grant from Trillium to improve the
safety and accessibility of the pool.
"The hot days are here and the pool is a
great way to stay cool," he said.
Huron East Mayor Joe Seili congratulated
the Lions for running and maintaining the
pool.
"Without the Lions, the pool wouldn't be
here. You kids should shake their hands and
thank them because this is where you're going
to enjoy your summer," he said.
Lions Pool manager Bob Beuttenmiller said
the renovations have resulted in an increased
enrollment for swimming lessons, family
passes and swim team this year.
"If we get really good weather the last two
weeks of June, it's a big help because people
will really commit to the pool," he said, adding
that he was seeing people at the grand re-
opening that he hadn't seen at the pool before.
