After meeting once a month for the past six months to prepare for its 150th anniversary, a committee of close to 30 orgai izers has created a weekend packed with activities from July 7-9, says co-chair Alvin McLellan. "Everything is coming together quite well," he says. "People are get- ting into the mood and tickets and anniversary clothing are starting to sell." The 150th anniversary begins with a talent show at 7:30 p.m. on the Friday at Grey municipal office along with a ball tournament and beer garden at 7 p.m. at Ethel Park. On Saturday, a parade begins at noon at Grey Central Public School with opening ceremonies beginning at 1:30 p.m. at Ethel Park. ATV stolen from Huron East property An all -terrain vehicles valued at $9,000, was stolen sometime during the night of June 22 from a property on Brandon Road in Huron East. With keys left in the ignition, the blue 2004 4X4 Polaris Sportsman ATV was driven away by thieves. Anyone with related information is asked to call the Huron OPP or Crime Stoppers at 1- 800-222-8477. What's coming to Seafrth? Watch for details. That afternoon, children's -activi- ties and a fun fair will be held at Cornerstone Bible Church, Century Farm displays and community and school history displays will be offered at 2 p.m. at Alexander's Field and Cornerstone Bible Church. McLellan says that if the 140th anniversary 10 years ago is any indication, the parade should be successful. "We had an hour-long parade and people lined both sides of the road last time. It was quite nice that way," he says. A fish fry will be held at the Grey municipal building from 4-7 p.m. Saturday followed by two dances, a BX93 Country Video dance at the Brussels Morris and Grey Community Centre and a dance fea- turing Marion's Country Band at the Ethel Hall. McLellan says the Ethel Hall dance is planned for the "older crowd" and tickets are "moving quite well" for both dances. On Sunday, the day begins with a firemen's/hall board breakfast, - fol- lowed by a golf tournament at the Cranbrook Golf Course from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and a scavenger hunt at the Ethel Ball Park from 10 a.m. until noon. McLellan says both events are new. The -scavenger hunt will involve touring Grey and taking digital pictures of various land- marks along the way. The Century Farm and communi- ty and school history display will continue on the Sunday. From 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, old- fashioned games, such as nail -dri- ving, crosscut sawing •and three- legged races will be held at the Ethel Park. "They'll be games you'd likely play at a family reunion," says McLellan. Sunday night will include a beef barbecue from 4-7 p.m. at the Grey municipal building followed by a community church service and choir at 7:30 p.m. The weekend will wrap up with a fireworks display at dusk at Grey Central. School. McLellan says organizers are hop- ing for a big turnout at the fire- works. "The viewing is excellent at the school. You can park along the road and see the fireworks," he says. Organizers are hoping to see a large number of people returning home to Grey for the weekend and residents are volunteering their homes as temporary Bed and Breakfasts for the event. As well, land is being made avail- able throughout Grey for people to park their trailers for the weekend. lei "YOUR RENOVATION AND HOME SPECIALISTS!
